Block Professional Services 12985 $21.9B United States Google Google Looker Analytics and BI 2019 n/a In 2019, Block deployed Google Looker to establish a centralized Analytics and BI layer supporting its hardware business systems and corporate teams. The rollout focused on capturing end to end supply chain visibility for planning to execution across logistics, delivery, retail, procurement, forecasting, and demand planning within Block’s Hardware Business Systems organization. The Google Looker implementation emphasized model-driven reporting and self-service analytics, with LookML models and curated dashboards used for cross-functional metrics. Teams produced SQL based BI reports for ad hoc analysis while simpler user queries were supported through OTBI for direct Oracle Cloud access, enabling a two-tier reporting approach that combined governed Looker dashboards with lightweight self-serve OTBI content. Data and integration architecture routed operational source data from Oracle ERP Cloud into Snowflake as the analytical store, with Mulesoft and API extracts used for event and partner data ingestion. Google Looker consumed the Snowflake layer for metrics and visualization, aligning Looker business models to Oracle ERP Cloud schemas and API-fed partner feeds, and supporting both REST and SOAP based integration patterns used by hardware partners. Governance and delivery were driven by the Hardware Business Systems team, which defined requirements, produced detailed field level mappings and contracts, and executed feature rollouts with partner engineering teams. Development lifecycle practices included GitHub based peer review, test plans and scripts for functional and technical testing, and ongoing monitoring of launched products and features to iterate using operational metrics in Google Looker.
