In 2016, Veolia Water implemented SAP S/4 HANA as an ERP Financial solution across its Australia and New Zealand operations for Environmental Services and Water business activities. The rollout targeted supplier-facing procure-to-pay workflows while explicitly excluding Veolia Water Network Services, Veolia Water Solutions & Technology, and several Veolia Energy business entities listed in the program documentation.
The implementation configured system-generated purchase orders with a single common PO format and unique PO numbering, automated PDF PO confirmations emailed to suppliers, and enforced PO reference validation on invoice processing. SAP S/4 HANA was used to attach unified standard terms and conditions to every purchase order and to centralize supplier master contact verification, reflecting procurement and accounts payable configuration typical of an ERP Financial deployment.
IBM served as the system integrator for the SAP S/4 HANA program and the solution routed purchase order distribution and supplier notifications through Veolia operational email workflows, including a vendor update mailbox for supplier contact verification. Cutover sequencing and transactional controls were defined, with the last payment run under the prior systems scheduled for 19 October 2016 and the new PO reference requirement and unified terms taking effect from 24 October 2016, including a policy that invoices lacking a system generated PO would not be paid after that date.
Governance measures included supplier fact sheets, direct supplier outreach for exemptions and open unpaid goods, and transitional arrangements to reissue POs where required to minimize disruption. Veolia communicated the expectation of minor transitional disruption while committing to limit supplier impact, and structured rollout and supplier support activities to enforce the new SAP S/4 HANA procurement and invoice processing controls.
