Kokubu & Co | Distribution | 5096 | $1.4B | Japan | Open Stream | Open Stream Biz/Browser DT | Apps Development | 2018 |
In 2018, Kokubu & Co implemented Open Stream Biz/Browser DT to rebuild its sales-facing cost-analysis and estimate-creation system. The deployment used Open Stream Biz/Browser DT within the Apps Development category to provide a browser-oriented interface that improved responsiveness and large-data handling for sales teams in Japan.
The implementation consolidated cost-analysis calculators and estimate creation workflows that had been based on Excel macros into server-side processing with a browser front end, enabling centralized data aggregation and more consistent pricing logic. Functional capabilities implemented included configurable pricing rules, template-driven estimate generation, and large dataset processing for complex product and cost component combinations.
Development and delivery were performed with Nomura Research Institute and the SI/VAR NRI Secure, aligning the system to Kokubu sales operations. Operational scope was explicitly sales in Japan, with the application embedded in daily pricing and estimate workflows used by field and inside sales staff.
The project was released in autumn 2018 and put into use by sales staff from April 2019, and Open Stream Biz/Browser DT is documented as delivering measurable efficiency gains in Kokubu's pricing and estimate processes.

SBI Securities | Banking and Financial Services | 19097 | $8.4B | Japan | VMware by Broadcom | VMware GemFire | Database Management | 2010 |
In 2010, SBI Securities implemented VMware GemFire as an in-memory data platform to power its online brokerage trading system, using the Database Management solution to reduce latency and increase transaction throughput. The deployment targeted low-latency, high-concurrency trading workloads and was sized for sustained peak trading volume with an operational go-live in January 2011.
The implementation of VMware GemFire centered on an in-memory data grid and distributed caching architecture, configured for real-time data replication and rapid transactional access. Functional capabilities emphasized session state management, fast lookup of market positions and orders, and high-throughput transactional processing consistent with Database Management patterns for finance.
The implementation was integrated into SBI Securities trading infrastructure to support front-office trading and order processing, providing a low-latency data tier for the brokerage application stack. Operational coverage was focused on the firms online brokerage trading operations in Japan and supported real-time access requirements across trading workflows.
Nomura Research Institute acted as the primary system integrator and application developer with Hitachi FISD as a partner, managing configuration, testing, and rollout. The project went live in January 2011 and reported explicit outcomes of 3 to 20x transaction throughput improvements, an approximately 3x reduction in server count, and a 5x smaller data center footprint based on the published case study.

Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management | Banking and Financial Services | 600 | $250M | Japan | DTCC | DTCC CTM Platform | Trading Platform | 2024 |
In 2024, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management implemented the DTCC CTM Platform to automate post-trade matching and to support accelerated T+1 settlement for equities and fixed income across the APAC and Japan region. The DTCC CTM Platform is a Trading Platform used to centralize affirmation and matching workflows and to enable same day affirmation across middle office and settlement operations. The implementation used CTM's Match to Instruct workflow alongside TradeSuite ID, ALERT and Settlement Instruction Manager, components of DTCC's ITP suite, to automate match resolution, instruction generation and settlement instruction management. Configuration work emphasized Match to Instruct routing rules, affirmation flows and TradeSuite ID mapping to normalize counterparty identifiers and reduce manual intervention. Delivery was executed by Nomura Research Institute using SmartBridge Advance, providing a managed integration and orchestration layer between Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management and DTCC ITP services. The deployment architecture consolidated incoming trade feeds into CTM for centralized reconciliation and outbound instruction flows to settlement channels. Governance and operational change included updated affirmation service level agreements and exception handling workflows to align with faster settlement cycles. The implementation improved straight through processing and same day affirmation as stated, and positioned post trade operations to support the industry move to T+1 settlement.
