In 2017, Afag Automation implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as its ERP Financial platform to centralize core financial processes across the group. Aveniq led the implementation while GIA Informatik was commissioned to develop the solution concept and provide the GIA private cloud infrastructure and related services.
The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 deployment delivered ERP Financial capabilities aligned to Afag Automation needs, with configuration focusing on core financial management functions such as general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, and centralized financial reporting. SAP ERP ECC 6.0 was provisioned on GIA Cloud Services with SAP basis managed in the GIA private cloud, avoiding up-front hardware investments.
The overall architecture combined local high-performance installations at the Huttwil and Amberg sites for product development and CAD systems with centrally hosted services. Local data was kept locally for autonomy and performance and then rapidly and automatically replicated into GIA’s secure Swiss data centers using Backup as a Service. Centralized services built in the GIA private cloud included email, CRM MS Dynamics, SAP ERP and SharePoint, and relevant data was moved from the group system into the Afag system using a carve-out procedure without interrupting operations.
Governance and rollout were organized with Aveniq coordinating deployment and GIA providing Platform as a Service, data center services and SAP basis support, following an everything from a single source approach. Responsibility and operational ownership were kept clear, enabling adjustments for future acquisitions without major new infrastructure spend. The implemented solution emphasized high availability and service quality with secure data storage in Switzerland and an optimized interaction between local and central systems.
