In 2018 ASML Germany GmbH implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform, focusing on a green field implementation of Controlling functionality. The engagement centered on establishing core cost accounting and profitability reporting capabilities within SAP S/4 HANA for manufacturing finance operations.
The implementation scope included configuration and design of Controlling modules such as cost center accounting, profit center accounting, internal order management, product costing, Material Ledger and Actual Costing, and CO PA. Product costing workstreams delivered product cost by order, PP PI and process order design, and cost object controlling, consistent with SAP S/4 HANA Controlling discipline.
Integrations and operational interactions were concentrated with production planning, the PP functional area, to align product cost planning and cost object flows, and with financial posting processes to support Material Ledger and Actual Costing activation. The project included cutover activities and a data migration strategy to populate controlling master data and historical cost information for go live, and it was executed as part of a larger rollout project at ASML Germany GmbH.
Governance activities comprised workshops and solution sign off with business stakeholders to finalize cost center, profit center, product costing and CO PA design, and establishment of controlling process workflows for variance analysis and settlement. Day to day controlling operations implemented in SAP S/4 HANA included variance analysis, posting and settlement of variances, and dual CO PA design using both costing based and accounting based approaches.
