In 2018, BridgeBio implemented Coupa Invoice as its AP Automation platform to centralize invoice processing for the corporate accounts payable function. The deployment of Coupa Invoice was positioned to support high-volume invoice intake and structured approval workflows across domestic and international entities within the organization.
Coupa Invoice was configured to manage invoice capture and validation, automated approval routing, duplicate payment safeguards, and payment run orchestration for domestic and international payments. Functional coverage included sales and use tax and VAT handling, management of year-end 1099 reporting tasks, and capabilities to support AP close activities including month-end reconciliations, journal entry preparation, and flux review. The AP lead was responsible for training personnel on multiple systems for submitting and approving expenses and for representing Accounts Payable in designing Coupa Invoice workflow enhancements.
The implementation integrated Coupa Invoice with the company accounting environment that required SAP experience for downstream journal entry posting and general ledger reconciliation. Operational scope included collaboration and interfacing with Procurement, Legal, Accounting, and FP&A to improve end-to-end procure-to-pay handoffs, while supporting multiple business entities and currencies. Coupa Invoice was used alongside other internal systems, requiring AP to manage cross-system processes and user training.
Governance and controls were implemented with a focus on SOX compliance for all AP activities, including approval workflow enforcement, fraud prevention checks to proactively guard against duplicate payments, and structured escalation procedures for vendor issues. The AP owner managed payment approvals, led SOX audit walkthroughs, and coordinated ad hoc projects and continuous process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency within the AP Automation footprint.
