Plum Legacy Plum Talent Assessment Platform Talent Assessment HCM n/a 2017 2017
In 2017, the Department of National Defence (Canada) deployed the Plum Talent Assessment Platform as part of a targeted effort to take a data-driven approach to increasing representation of visible minorities within its executive talent pools. The Plum Talent Assessment Platform, classified in the Talent Assessment category, was positioned to augment recruitment and staffing by surfacing candidates’ natural talents and providing quantifiable job fit signals for executive selection workflows. Implementation focused on assessment and scoring capabilities that reveal natural talents and quantify job fit, with configuration to produce candidate profiles and fit scores aligned to executive job requirements. Functional elements included structured talent assessments, candidate profiling, and analytics capabilities to segment and prioritize executive talent pools, enabling more consistent application of non-cognitive evaluation criteria across hiring stages. Operational coverage centered on executive recruitment and internal staffing processes, where human resources and selection panels used Plum outputs to challenge reliance on education and experience alone. Governance changes emphasized incorporation of assessment-derived fit scores into selection decision rules, and the adoption of new evaluation criteria across staffing pipelines to systematically consider diverse talent signals. As a result, the Department of National Defence (Canada) reported an increase in representation of visible minorities in its executive talent pools and documented four key wins using the Plum Talent Assessment Platform. The deployment illustrates how Talent Assessment tools can be embedded into executive staffing and talent management workflows to broaden the candidate evaluation framework.
