SAP Legacy SAP ERP ECC 6.0 ERP Financial ERP n/a 2020 2020
In 2020, CEMEX implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 within an ERP Financial program while migrating its SAP estate onto SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications in a multi cloud Microsoft Azure environment. The implementation was part of a broader move to SAP HANA for database services and to align SAP ERP ECC 6.0 with a cloud first infrastructure strategy, with the year 2020 marking the start of the documented rollout. The implementation configured core SAP ERP ECC 6.0 capabilities that support finance, logistics, procurement and human resources, and included deployment of SLES for SAP Applications as the operating system tuned for SAP HANA. The program deployed two SAP HANA databases on the SUSE Linux Enterprise platform, and included high availability and clustering design, security hardening, system tuning and cloud based backup and data transfer engines as part of the baseline configuration. A proof of concept preceded the rollout and a pilot landscape serving roughly 400 to 500 users validated the configuration and operational procedures. Integrations were executed to connect the new SAP HANA databases to the existing SAP Business Suite globally, and to deliver faster business intelligence through Power BI consumption of SAP data. The multi cloud Azure deployment addressed geographic performance variability, specifically improving response times for Asian offices by distributing compute and database services closer to regional users. The project explicitly targeted ERP Financial business functions by updating legal and finance solutions and keeping migrated SAP applications current with the latest features and fixes. Governance and rollout were led by CEMEX IT Operations and IT Architecture teams working closely with SUSE, SAP and Microsoft technical teams. SUSE consultants provided architecture guidance for high availability and disaster recovery, clustering recommendations, and validation against SAP and cloud vendor best practices, enabling a phased migration approach from proof of concept to pilot and then scale. Operational responsibilities were redefined as systems moved to the cloud based SLES for SAP Applications platform, reducing on premise system management overhead and clarifying owner boundaries between CEMEX and cloud providers. Results reported by CEMEX include improved performance for 70 percent of SAP applications, reduced on premise infrastructure costs through decommissioning in Asia, simplified IT management and more flexible infrastructure with new high availability capabilities. The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 implementation on SLES for SAP Applications and SAP HANA on Azure established a CEMEX SAP Cloud Foundation intended to support further migrations and future growth in ERP Financial operations.
