| SAP | Legacy | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2021 | 2021 |
In 2021, Ipsen U.K. & Ireland implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its core ERP Financial platform to centralize Record to Report capabilities and support finance transformation. The program positioned SAP S/4 HANA to be the primary application for GL accounting, asset accounting, bank processing, controlling, tax reporting and statutory and management financial reporting for the U.K. and Ireland scope.
The implementation focused on R2R functional modules and finance analytics, specifically GL accounting including classic, new and extended ledgers, SAP Asset Accounting, SAP Bank, SAP Controlling, inventory accounting, financial and internal control, tax reporting, and Finance Planning and Analytics. The IT Lead Record to Report role drove configuration and solution design workstreams, reviewed and validated RICEFW specifications and complex reports, and emphasized a core-model approach to keep SAP S/4 HANA as standard as possible while capturing necessary fit gap decisions.
Integrations were scoped with other finance components explicitly including SAP Analytics Cloud, Finance Consolidation, Concur, Ariba, Vistex, BlackLine and Diapason, and the program ensured alignment of R2R with other Global Business Processes such as Concept to Product, Order to Cash, Procure to Pay and Forecast to Produce. Delivery execution was coordinated with external parties where required, including system integrator and application management services, and integration and data teams to enable end-to-end transaction and reporting flows.
Governance and operating model changes were built into the rollout, with the IT Lead R2R acting as primary IT point of contact to Global Business Process Owners and local stakeholders, enforcing SAP best practices, IT architecture, integration and security standards and Service Level Agreements. The role supported business process excellence by contributing to fit gap analysis, ensuring local legal and regulatory requirements were captured in the SAP S/4 HANA core-model and driving adoption of product roadmap capabilities such as RPA, predictive analytics and machine learning where aligned to R2R objectives.
The program emphasized business value realization and finance data model transformation without quantified outcomes in the source material, and project controls included producing deliverables on time, quality and budget as part of the financial governance remit. High exposure to business unit leaders and global process owners was noted, reflecting the program priority on establishing SAP S/4 HANA as Ipsen U.K. & Irelands ERP Financial backbone for Record to Report and adjacent finance functions.

| ADP | Legacy | ADP Freedom | Payroll | HCM | n/a | 2015 | 2015 |
In 2015, Ipsen U.K. & Ireland implemented ADP Freedom to manage Payroll across its UK and Dublin operations. The deployment centralized payroll processing responsibility for multiple UK sites and the Dublin site, with oversight of external third party payroll providers to ensure statutory compliance.
ADP Freedom was configured as the primary payroll application, with designated main users and interface specialists responsible for PAYE and National Insurance calculations. Functional capabilities in use included advanced payroll processing for high earners, statutory deduction calculations, time and attendance administration for Ireland, pensions administration, and childcare voucher management.
Operational scope covered coordination with external third party payroll providers and direct liaison with operations managers to ensure employee payroll documentation was submitted for each pay cycle. The implementation addressed Irish payroll legislation controls for PAYE, Universal Social Charge and PRSI, and UK payroll controls for PAYE, National Insurance contributions and court orders.
Governance and process restructuring established subject matter expert roles, a standardized user payroll manual for processing and knowledge transfer, and employee-facing education programs. Ipsen rolled out a Know your pay training scheme, created end to end total reward statements, produced monthly podcasts on pay and statutory deductions, and supported gender pay gap reporting and national minimum wage checks and reports using ADP Freedom.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP Concur Travel | Travel Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2017 | 2017 |
In 2017 Ipsen U.K. & Ireland implemented SAP Concur Travel as part of Ipsen Pharma's group deployment, positioning SAP Concur Travel within their Travel Management landscape and aligning local operations to a single cloud travel and expense platform. The deployment was presented as a group initiative that covered 15 countries with 4,200 Concur Travel and Expense users generating approximately 30,000 expense reports per year, indicating a multinational rollout scope that explicitly included the UK and Ireland among other markets.
The implementation covered both Concur Expense and the Travel module, with configuration work organized in waves of two to four countries for Expense and planned five country clusters for Travel. The configuration strategy used a Core Model adapted to country specificities such as VAT rules and corporate card setups, and emphasized a mobile first approach for expense capture, including plans to deploy OCR on mobile to support dematerialization and digital receipts.
Technical integration focused on interfacing Concur with the existing ecosystem, specifically the HR system, SAP, and local banks for corporate card reconciliation, and included connectors to retrieve specialist databases such as healthcare professional records. The deployment also involved a change of travel agency in parallel with Travel rollouts and relied on Concur connectors plus live configuration updates during business acceptance to accelerate delivery.
Governance and process changes required cross functional coordination across Purchasing, Finance, HR and IT, along with external teams consisting of Concur, an integrating service provider, banks and travel agencies. Change management was emphasized as a critical risk area, training formats varied by country to reflect culture and volume, and local business teams experienced short but intense workloads during wave launches, creating the need to separate technical tool deployment from travel policy communication.
Reported outcomes and future plans in the program included harmonized travel policy and consolidated reporting, improved compliance controls, a stated objective to reduce processing time through ERP and HR system integration, and positive adoption of the mobile expense workflow which reduced workload for accounting, audit and HR teams. Ipsen also planned further Travel deployments and to complete Expense integrations in Russia, Taiwan and the Nordic countries, while progressing toward mobile OCR and digital certificate usage to eliminate paper receipts.
