The implementation encompassed core financial modules and configuration work, including Financial Accounting, Controlling, Treasury Management, Investment Management, Project Systems, Workflow and cost flow processes. Configuration and technical work emphasized IMG configuration, BADI and ABAP enhancement points, user exit and enhancement processing, transport collection and migration process control, and performance tuning to support high availability and throughput for finance transactions.
Supply chain and operational modules were included in the scope, with Materials Management, Logistics Execution, Warehouse Management, Production Planning, Plant Maintenance, Sales and Distribution, and HR and Payroll related modules such as MSS and ESS. Integrations were defined with adjacent SAP platforms explicitly called out in the implementation blueprint, including SRM, EWM, APO, BW BPC, SuccessFactors, Ariba, Fieldglass, and GRC, enabling master data organization structures and cross-platform process flows.
Governance and operating model changes focused on transport and migration governance, SAP security and authorization design, and establishing master data and organizational structure ownership across procurement sourcing, HR payroll, material handling and production planning teams. The deployment provided an employee-facing Employee Central portal designed for benefits access and enrollment, available to staff from outside NextEra Energy facilities.
SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Global Benefits was configured to support open enrollment and new hire enrollment workflows, enabling employees to enroll during open enrollment and for new hires, make benefit changes, and view benefits information. The implementation exposed login authenticated interfaces and a mobile portal to present benefits data and enrollment transactions, aligned with a centralized employee profile and benefits data model.
The Employee Central portal integrates with the HR4U system and other mobile SAP applications, creating a connected HR and benefits experience across systems. Timesheet access is available through the same portal, indicating operational linkage between benefits administration and timekeeping workflows.
Governance was implemented via corporately-managed mobile device access and required login controls to secure remote access to benefits functionality. The rollout emphasized HR and benefits operations, with Employee Central used during open enrollment periods and by new hires for benefits onboarding.

In 2019, NextEra Energy implemented IFS Workflow (formerly P2 Workflow) as part of its Business Process Management tooling for land and reserves data operations. The deployment at NextEra Energy, coordinated from Houston, TX, was applied to oil and gas reserves related data change projects and lease administration work managed by the Business Analyst and Lease Analyst functions.
Configuration emphasized workflow automation for data change requests, task routing and approvals, document routing and traceability, and audit trail capabilities consistent with Business Process Management practice. The IFS Workflow implementation was used to standardize case handling for leases and contracts, to enforce review and approval checkpoints, and to instrument repeatable processes for monthly land reporting and SEC filing preparation.
The IFS Workflow environment was integrated into an operational stack that included Quorum and Excalibur, with explicit data conversion workstreams moving records from Excalibur to Quorum and from DocVue to Documentum. Thought Trace AI was implemented across land documents and the IFS Workflow was used to orchestrate the intake, review, and exception handling of AI extracted metadata, supporting acquisitions and divestitures by managing incoming land system data feed processes.
Governance and rollout relied on a team based work dynamic and Six Sigma methodologies to identify process improvements and to drive consistent data change controls. NextEra Energy designated subject matter experts and trainers for IFS Workflow and adjacent systems, embedding process ownership into lease administration and special projects teams, and the Thought Trace AI deployment produced explicitly stated gains in efficiency and accuracy of document data interpretation.
