In 2020, Oxford Economics implemented SAP Business ByDesign as its ERP Financial platform to centralize disparate, geographically spread operations and establish a single group-wide cloud ERP accessible from anywhere. The implementation targeted finance and operational processes across offices in 16 countries, consolidating separate businesses onto a standard set of processes on one system to improve visibility and reduce manual effort.
SAP Business ByDesign was configured to support day-to-day financials, contract management, and customer invoicing, with a roadmap that included full deployment of the projects module. The engagement addressed complex revenue recognition needs across subscription and consultancy business models, delivering SAP-based solutions that provide visibility of consultancy hours spanning business entities and countries. Reporting capability was a focal area, with monthly and quarterly reporting being standardized and finance staff trained and enabled to design and deploy their own reports within SAP Business ByDesign.
The implementation included design of bespoke invoice templates for each country to ensure local regulatory and tax compliance, and a planned integration of Salesforce CRM with SAP Business ByDesign to align customer and financial workflows. Consolidated information from the platform was used to manage different legal entities across the group and to reduce manual reconciliation across sites, supporting a globally managed solution that scales with business growth.
Codestone was engaged as the implementation partner to deliver the roadmap, conducting a full review of the existing setup, extensive pre-contract planning, and hands-on training to transfer skills to Oxford Economics finance staff. Governance and process changes emphasized standardization of reporting and invoicing templates, ongoing self-service report development by finance, and operational controls for international projects. Outcomes explicitly reported by the customer include improved tax liability handling through compliant invoices, consolidated reporting driving operational visibility, reduced manual effort worldwide, and a fully managed global solution that supported business continuity during remote working conditions.
