In 2020 Smurfit Kappa deployed Senseye PdM at its Norwich Jupiter Road corrugated sheet board plant, embedding predictive maintenance capability within its Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) context. Smurfit Kappa is a FTSE 100 company and the Norwich installation was positioned as an initial, scalable PdM proof point to inform a wider roll out across other sites.
The implementation centered on Senseye PdM analytics combined with edge sensors and supporting infrastructure, with hardware and site implementation delivered by Malone Group in conjunction with Omron. Configuration emphasized condition monitoring, automated anomaly detection and failure forecasting workflows tied to asset condition, with user interfaces designed to surface predictive work items for the engineering team rather than reactive tickets.
Integration work connected Senseye PdM to on‑floor manufacturing systems and SAP, and established an effective interface with the site maintenance management processes. Operational coverage focused on the Jupiter Road production lines and the plant engineering and maintenance functions, using plant data streams to drive alerts and prioritized maintenance actions within the Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) environment.
Governance changes included simplified engineering workflows and a shift in maintenance planning from condition based checks to predictive interventions, with the implementation documented as an evidence base for broader rollout. Outcomes reported after six months show the system needs time to stabilize and mature, while initial results include simplified workflow for the engineering team, a stronger focus on asset condition and predictive work rather than reactive maintenance, and early signs of improved uptime.
