| SAP | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | Wipro | 2017 | 2018 |
In 2017 Sydney Water implemented SAP S/4 HANA as the core of its Business Experience Platform to deliver ERP Financial capabilities as part of a broader A$250 million core IT uplift. The BxP allocation of A$85.7 million funded a new SAP S/4 HANA instance alongside cloud add ons, and the program explicitly linked the SAP S/4 HANA deployment to the utility’s objective of a more efficient internal business back office. The project acknowledged an existing SAP ERP ECC 6.0 environment and was executed by a Wipro led consortium with Capgemini and E&Y contributing to design, build and run activities.
The implementation scope centered on finance and back office orchestration within SAP S/4 HANA, complemented by cloud based procurement via Ariba and human capital management through SuccessFactors, and delivered SAP Fiori user experience front ends across the BxP. Customer billing and CRM workstreams were managed in parallel under a separate Customer Experience Platform using SAP ECC based CRM and SAP IS U utility billing software, preserving a clear separation between customer billing modernization and the ERP Financial back office. Project governance favored configuration and business process change over heavy bespoke customisation to reduce downstream upgrade cost and complexity.
Deployment architecture placed the SAP S/4 HANA instance in the NSW GovDC government data centre while integrating cloud services for Ariba and SuccessFactors and SAP Fiori at the presentation layer. The program moved from onshore blueprinting into a realisation and offshore build model via an offshore development centre, with the combined onshore and offshore team peaking at about 300 staff. Cutover planning incorporated operational risk controls, including a six month parallel familiarisation period and a two wave geographical billing roll out to limit customer impact during transition.
Governance and operating model changes were executed alongside the technical implementation, aligning the S/4 HANA ERP Financial deployment with Sydney Water’s lifestream strategy for customer centricity and performance. The program explicitly linked the ERP Financial implementation to downstream analytics and data initiatives, including the AIM program and plans to connect Sydney Water’s data lakes into a broader NSW government data ecosystem. The implementation narrative emphasizes structured blueprints, phased delivery, and an operating model recalibration to support the utility’s stated aims for a data driven customer and supply chain foundation.

In 2023, Sydney Water implemented LiveHire ATS as an Applicant Tracking System on their website. LiveHire ATS is deployed as the public-facing recruiting interface embedded in Sydney Water careers pages, positioning the application as the primary candidate intake channel for the organization.
The LiveHire ATS configuration consolidates job posting, candidate application intake, resume parsing, candidate tracking, and talent pool management into a single recruitment workflow. Automated screening rules, status notifications, and interview workflow orchestration were configured to align with standard HR recruitment procedures and to streamline candidate progression through requisition to hire.
Operational ownership rests with Sydney Water HR and Talent Acquisition teams who use LiveHire ATS to manage applicant flows and maintain candidate records centrally. The implementation focuses on the careers site integration and on-role based recruitment activity, with governance controls applied to candidate data handling, access permissions, and recruitment approvals to ensure consistent hiring process enforcement across the organization.

| Hitachi Vantara | Legacy | Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite | Asset Performance Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2012 | 2013 |
In 2012, Sydney Water implemented Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite. The Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite was deployed as an Asset Performance Management solution to centralize asset portfolio decision making, lifecycle planning, and capital prioritization across the utility's asset management functions.
The implementation focused on standard Asset Performance Management capabilities including asset portfolio management, risk and criticality modeling, lifecycle and intervention planning, and consolidated performance reporting. Configuration work emphasized data harmonization for asset hierarchies, risk scoring rules, and scenario-based capital program modeling to support multi-year investment planning.
Integrations were established with Sydney Water's best of breed application stack to operationalize planning outputs. The FocalPoint Suite was integrated with Maximo for work order and maintenance execution synchronization, with Smallworld GIS for spatial asset context and mapping, with Ventyx mobile workforce management for field execution handoffs, and with PeopleSoft, Oracle, Business Objects, TIBCO, and Siebel CRM for HR, financial, enterprise reporting, middleware orchestration, and customer data alignment. Data exchanges and BI feeds were structured to support governance reporting and cross-system reconciliation.
Portfolio governance and rollout were managed through a centralized portfolio office model. Project managers validated improvement opportunities against strategy and technology roadmaps, engaged multiple stakeholders, sized resourcing, and coordinated organisational change activities to align the Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite with Sydney Water's existing asset and IT ecosystems. The program emphasized integration hygiene, stakeholder engagement, and staged configuration to align planning workflows with operational and capital delivery teams.
