In 2005, The Esplanade Co implemented Unit4 Financials (ex CODA Financial) as its central ERP Financial system. The implementation was led by an internal project lead reporting to the Finance Director and targeted end to end financial accounting, billing and procurement processes. Unit4 Financials (ex CODA Financial) was positioned to consolidate accounting, reporting and interfacing with front end applications used across the organization.
Unit4 Financials was configured with core ledger functionality and the Billing and Procurement submodules, alongside a reporting layer to support monthly management reporting and variance analysis. The project included development and fine tuning of accounting policies and internal controls, and the establishment of forecast processes to model the next three years of recurrent funding requirements. The project lead also assumed the system administrator role for Unit4 Financials and managed report development and interfaces to front end applications.
The deployment integrated Unit4 Financials with front end applications to support billing workflows and to feed procurement and financial reporting processes. Operational coverage included the finance function, procurement, grant administration, treasury interactions with bankers, and corporate secretarial support in Singapore. The system was used to coordinate statutory reporting and compliance activities with internal and external auditors and with the tax agent on withholding tax and GST issues.
Governance shifts included drafting papers for Board and Audit Committee approval, formalizing monthly management reporting cadences, monitoring capital expenditure against approved budgets and participating in quarterly forecasting exercises. The finance team evaluated outsourcing of the internal audit function while using Unit4 Financials to centralize control points for grants and funding contributors. System administration, liaison with auditors, bankers and legal advisors, and preparation of Board presentation materials were institutionalized as part of the operational governance around Unit4 Financials.
