In 2006, The Medical University of South Carolina implemented Freezerworks Unlimited to support laboratory biobanking for a large longitudinal diabetes study. The implementation captured freeze and thaw events and shipment records, enabling comprehensive event history and specimen provenance at the aliquot level.
Operational coverage focused on biobanking and laboratory functions supporting the longitudinal diabetes protocol, with system usage aligned to specimen intake, storage allocation, retrieval requests, and shipment processing. The solution centralized retrieval workflows and inventory queries across distributed freezer assets to improve operational traceability and sample discoverability.
Governance emphasized auditability and process control, the system providing a full audit trail for shipments and freeze and thaw history to support specimen governance and regulatory documentation. The deployment materially improved traceability and retrieval of samples for the program, with Freezerworks Unlimited serving as the Laboratory Management system of record for the study.
