In 2015, United Utilities implemented ALTO Accounts Payable from Innovation Centric Consulting Group as part of an Enterprise Resource Planning initiative supporting its Customer Experience Programme. The ALTO Accounts Payable deployment was positioned inside a Service Orientated Architecture to align accounts payable processing with an omni channel contact platform and back office workflow services.
ALTO Accounts Payable was configured to provide core accounts payable capabilities including invoice capture and validation, supplier master data management, structured AP workflow routing and payment processing automation, with workflow orchestration driven by PNMsoft Sequence Kinetic BPM. The implementation emphasized service based web services for AP transaction handling, and AP workflows were modeled to hand off tasks between contact centre agents and back office teams.
The solution integrated with the wider contact centre and enterprise stack, using Software AG webMethods as the Enterprise Service Bus for web services routing. Front end and customer engagement components explicitly included Avaya Aura Contact Centre 7 with CM 7 in a Collaboration Pod Architecture and a bespoke Avaya CRM Connector, Open Q CCT for back office callback handling, Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint, and SiteCore web platform with XDb. Customer data was mastered in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016, while back end interactions were connected to the bespoke Alto billing platform, Mecoms metering, FICO Debt Management and SAP CRM.
Innovation Centric Consulting Group was engaged to deliver the ALTO Accounts Payable application and to provide technical quality assurance, while United Utilities had selected Cognizant as the system integrator for the overall Service Orientated Architecture deployment. Engagement covered concept, definition and design phases, with governance focused on ESB led service design and BPM orchestrated workflows to coordinate contact centre to back office processes.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP HCM (HR) | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2011 | 2012 |
In 2011 United Utilities implemented SAP HCM (HR) as its Core HR platform to centralize HR, payroll and talent processes. The rollout established SAP HCM (HR) as the authoritative system for personnel administration and payroll processing across the company.
The implementation encompassed Organizational Management OM, Personnel Administration PA, Payroll, Time Management and CATS for time capture, Employee Self Service ESS and Manager Self Service MSS, Learning and Development including E-Learning, Travel Management, and Enterprise Compensation Management. Nakisa was used for org visualization, talent management and succession planning, while BI and BO reporting provided HR analytics and operational reporting tied to SAP master data.
The technical footprint used EHP5 and SAP Portal 7.3 to deliver portal based ESS and MSS capabilities, with SAP-Security controls configured for role based access and separation of duties. BI BO Reporting was provisioned for workforce reporting and dashboards, and Nakisa integrations provided a visualization layer that surfaced HR structures and succession plans from SAP HCM.
Operational governance and solution stewardship were supported by a Lead SAP HCM Consultant, HCM Solution Architect engaged from March 2012, responsible for configuration, architecture and ongoing releases. The deployment organized HR, payroll and learning functions around the SAP HCM module set and centralized talent and compensation workflows under a single Core HR application.
