| SAP | Legacy | SAP S/4HANA Retail Merchandise Management | Supply Chain Management | SCM | n/a | 2020 | 2020 |
In 2020 Volg deployed SAP S/4HANA Retail Merchandise Management to consolidate retail operations and support Supply Chain Management functions across its cooperative group. The initiative targeted a company-wide harmonization for the Volg Group, part of the Fenaco cooperative, with operations that include 586 Volg stores, 231 independent retail outlets, 107 TopShops, three distribution centers and 924 supplied sales points, and annual sales reported at 1.768 million CHF in 2020.
The implementation used SAP Retail with SAP S/4HANA Retail Merchandise Management and S/4 Finance on HANA DB, leveraging all SAP standard functions together with in-house extensions delivered by retailsolutions. Functional modules implemented include Procurement Plus with fresh overdraft, trade calculation and promotion processing, Sales Plus with a central sales cockpit and shop fitting and course management, Logistics Plus tied to warehouse operations and transport logistics, and core accounting via S/4 Finance. The deployment emphasized standard SAP retail processes while retaining selected retailer-specific extensions to support promotion, pricing and assortment workflows.
Integrations were executed to centralize transactional interfaces and reduce heterogeneity, consolidating more than 150 previous interfaces into the SAP platform. Explicit system connections implemented include the TCPOS cash register integration, Store Online front end, the sales information system, and links to the warehouse management system and transport logistics systems. The platform was provisioned to operate across the retailer footprint, spanning store formats including village shops, gas station shops and Prima sales outlets, and to service procurement, sales, logistics and finance teams.
Governance and rollout focused on standardization and operational readiness, culminating in a successful GoLive in 2020. The program delivered a homogenized and integrated IT platform intended to prepare Volg for a path to real-time business, while preserving required retail-specific capabilities through controlled in-house developments. SAP S/4HANA Retail Merchandise Management now serves as the central system for Supply Chain Management and adjacent business functions at Volg.
