The platform is built as a low-code app development environment to enable rapid HCM application assembly and extreme customization, and it centers on a dynamic teams model to support personalized work and pay experiences.

In 2018, Babbly implemented Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service as the core Cloud platform to harden security, scale reliably, and meet HIPAA compliance requirements for its infant communication application. The Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service deployment was part of a prioritized effort to move from a development stage infrastructure to a production ready Kubernetes architecture capable of supporting frequent releases and automated security controls.
The implementation delivered a production ready Amazon EKS cluster integrated with Amazon Relational Database Service for managed database workloads and a multi stage pipeline separating development and production to improve QA. Network and ingress were handled using an ALB Ingress controller and external DNS to dynamically update Amazon Route 53 records, while Amazon Certificate Manager and Elastic Load Balancer provided TLS termination for public endpoints. AWS WAFv2 with AWS Managed Rules was applied at the load balancer to mitigate common web application threats aligned with the Open Web Application Security Project top 10.
Pod level security and intra cluster encryption were implemented via the Linkerd service mesh to secure service to service traffic without application code changes, and IAM permissions for Amazon EKS were scoped to the principle of least permissive access. Observability and logging were centralized with Amazon CloudWatch Container Insights and CloudWatch log groups to meet auditing and compliance needs. Storage encryption, SSL, automated backups for Amazon RDS, and deployment into multiple availability zones were included to strengthen reliability and data protection.
Infrastructure as code and CI CD automation anchored the operational model, Bitbucket pipelines were used for application deployment, and AWS CloudFormation templates were used to provision networking, VPC resources, Amazon RDS instances, and the EKS cluster. Onica, a Rackspace Technology company, worked with Babbly to apply Runway and Kustomize to accelerate infrastructure as code deployments and standardize manifests, while handing over documentation and operational runbooks to Babbly’s engineering team.
Governance changes included formalized compliance checkpoints in the managed infrastructure as code pipeline and working sessions to upskill Babbly’s small engineering team. The production ready Kubernetes architecture was completed in six weeks to meet a closed beta submission deadline, and the implemented Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service environment provided the monitoring, encryption, automated deployment pipelines, and multi AZ resilience needed to support ongoing releases and HIPAA aligned operations.
