Citizens Bank | Banking and Financial Services | 17398 | $8.2B | United States | Amazon Web Services (AWS) | AWS Control Tower | Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) | 2017 | n/a |
In 2017, Citizens Bank deployed AWS Control Tower to centralize multi account governance and to support its Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) posture across the bank's AWS environment. The implementation used AWS Control Tower as the core landing zone orchestration layer and integrated it with AWS Organizations to provision and enforce account baselines and guardrails for security and compliance.
The AWS Control Tower deployment incorporated infrastructure automation and configuration management, using AWS CloudFormation and Terraform for repeatable provisioning, and AWS Systems Manager for patching and configuration tasks. Operational capabilities implemented included centralized logging and monitoring with enabled S3 access logging, VPC flow logs, CloudTrail, CloudWatch alarms, and AWS Config, plus runtime scanning with AWS Inspector and Lambda based automation for workload orchestration.
Integrations were explicitly instrumented between AWS Control Tower and native AWS services, including IAM for identity governance, EC2 and EBS with Lifecycle Manager snapshots to streamline backups, ELB and auto scaling for web tier availability, RDS, DynamoDB, API Gateway, CloudFront, Lambda, and data pipelines using Kinesis Firehose into S3 and Redshift with downstream analysis in Elasticsearch. The engineering team in Atlanta managed the multi account operational coverage and operationalized event driven deployments by creating Lambda deployment functions that consumed S3 events.
Governance and process changes focused on centralized account management and automated compliance enforcement through AWS Control Tower and AWS Organizations, with CloudTrail retained for audit logging. Documented outcomes from the implementation included annual cost savings of 30 percent, a 45 percent reduction in manual effort through automated EBS snapshot and lifecycle processes, a 15 percent reduction in EC2 related costs through image and resource automation, and improved system reliability and monitoring coverage across the AWS estate.

Learnerbly | Professional Services | 85 | $9M | United Kingdom | Amazon Web Services (AWS) | AWS Control Tower | Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) | 2022 | The Scale Factory |
In 2022, Learnerbly implemented AWS Control Tower as part of an Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) initiative, engaging The Scale Factory and Amazon Web Services to create a secure, scalable cloud foundation. The engagement targeted faster developer onboarding and stronger security and compliance posture while enabling future growth plans. AWS Control Tower was configured to provision new development accounts rapidly and to enforce preventative and detective guardrails across the AWS environment, centralizing account orchestration and baseline configuration. The Scale Factory deployed Amazon GuardDuty for continuous security event monitoring and AWS Backup for centralized data protection, and Learnerbly also adopted Amazon Personalize to add a machine learning driven recommendation feature for customers. These components were integrated to provide a single pane of glass for security events, with AWS Control Tower surfacing guardrail violations and Amazon GuardDuty providing a traffic light alerting model for security staff. Operational coverage emphasized developer account lifecycle management and production access governance, where only two employees retain production privileges and ad hoc access can now be granted at the click of a button. Governance and workflow changes formalized preventative and detective controls and automated onboarding workflows, reducing developer onboarding from a manual half hour to near instantaneous provisioning. Outcomes reported by Learnerbly include zero security incidents since adopting AWS and a transformed infrastructure positioned to support planned expansion into the US market.
