In 2023, Aegea implemented Bentley Systems OpenCities Map, a Geographic Information System, to build Brazil's largest 3D sanitation map and digital twins covering Rio de Janeiro and 13 states. The work supported Aegea's intelligent infrastructure program and was focused on enabling asset inventory and operations for water and sewage services across multiple municipal and regional sites.
Aegea used Bentley Reality Modeling and OpenCities applications with ContextCapture to process a photogrammetry corpus of 156,000 drone photos and generate high fidelity 3D reality meshes and geospatial models. Those reality models were ingested into Bentley Systems OpenCities Map to create digital twins, resulting in the digitization of over 29,000 physical assets and establishing a spatially referenced asset inventory for lifecycle asset management.
The implementation established a photogrammetry to GIS pipeline, where ContextCapture outputs were integrated into OpenCities Map for mapping, attribute tagging, visualization, and spatial indexing to support field operations and asset management workflows. Operational coverage extended across Rio de Janeiro and 13 states, enabling operations teams to access geospatially accurate asset records and 3D views for maintenance and decision support.
Rollout incorporated centralized geospatial governance and standardized attribute schemas to unify asset inventory processes and operational use of the 3D sanitation map.
