Macau Water Supply Co., Ltd. | Utilities | 50 | $10M | Macao | Hillstone Networks | Hillstone T-Series | Next Generation Firewall | 2018 | n/a |
In 2018, Macau Water Supply Co., Ltd. deployed Hillstone T-Series as a Next Generation Firewall to strengthen protection of its network and critical assets. The deployment was driven by a need for greater visibility on network assets and a more holistic understanding of security posture.
The implementation used one Hillstone T2860 Intelligent Next Generation Firewall installed inline between an existing firewall appliance and the core network switch to protect traffic destined for web and email servers. The Hillstone T2860 provided consolidated visibility into network assets and supported Next Generation Firewall capabilities such as application awareness and deep traffic inspection to control and inspect server traffic.
Operational coverage focused on the utility’s core network layer in Macao, protecting web and mail server traffic and improving the IT team’s situational awareness of asset and threat state. The Hillstone T-Series deployment centralized inspection and policy enforcement at the network edge, and it directly addressed Macau Water Supply Co., Ltd.’s prior gaps in asset visibility and holistic security posture.

Norbert Wiener University | Education | 1000 | $200M | Peru | Hillstone Networks | Hillstone T-Series | Next Generation Firewall | 2018 | n/a |
In 2018, Norbert Wiener University deployed Hillstone T-Series intelligent next generation firewalls as part of an institutional move to implement layered security principles. The Hillstone T-Series Next Generation Firewall was positioned to protect the university perimeter network, reflecting the IT organization decision to apply Hillstone’s Security That Works approach.
Deployment emphasized core Next Generation Firewall capabilities, including application visibility and control, threat inspection and intrusion prevention, SSL/TLS inspection, and centralized policy management using the Hillstone T-Series iNGFW feature set. Configuration work included perimeter policy segmentation to isolate administrative and campus services, and the establishment of enforcement rules for network‑level detection and prevention.
The T-Series deployment was executed in conjunction with the Hillstone I-Series server breach detection system sBDS for intranet protection, creating a layered perimeter and internal detection posture. Event correlation between T-Series and I-Series fed centralized security event workflows and supported incident investigation processes across the university IT organization.
IT managers led governance changes to codify layered security practices, updating firewall policy lifecycle ownership, incident response workflows, and operational monitoring responsibilities across network and server teams. Rollout was staged to limit service impact while extending perimeter controls and internal server breach detection across the university network.

Purmerend Schools Group (PSG) | Education | 250 | $20M | Netherlands | Hillstone Networks | Hillstone T-Series | Next Generation Firewall | 2018 | n/a |
In 2018, Purmerend Schools Group (PSG) deployed Hillstone T-Series as a Next Generation Firewall to secure site perimeters and inter-site connectivity. The PSG deployed four Hillstone Intelligent Next Generation Firewall T1860 appliances arranged into two high availability configurations.
Each high availability setup comprised two Hillstone T1860 appliances, with each pair connected to two distinct internet uplinks to separate paths for redundancy. One HA pair was installed to protect PSG's largest site, while the second HA pair was positioned to protect multiple remote sites that are joined by a private fiber WAN.
The deployment extended Next Generation Firewall functions across PSG's WAN, using application-aware firewalling, intrusion prevention, SSL inspection, and VPN capabilities typical of the category to control application traffic and threats at the network edge. A wireless point-to-point link connects the two locations, and the HA configurations were aligned with the private fiber and dual-ISP topology to maintain session continuity across uplink and site failures.
Operationally the configuration centralized perimeter security at two HA nodes, aligning device placement with site criticality and WAN topology, and the Hillstone Intelligent Next Generation Firewall T1860 units served as the primary enforcement points for network security policy and inter-site traffic inspection. The rollout emphasized appliance pairing, redundant uplinks, and protection of both a primary campus and multiple fiber-connected sites, delivering a resilient perimeter architecture for PSG.
