3B Pharmaceuticals | Life Sciences | 150 | $70M | Germany | IDBS | IDBS ActivityBase | Analytics and BI | 2020 | n/a |
In 2020, 3B Pharmaceuticals expanded its use of IDBS ActivityBase, deploying the IDBS ActivityBase platform as its central research data repository to address Analytics and BI needs across the organization. The company moved from a project-limited footprint to a company-wide roll-out that aimed to broaden access to assay data and analysis beyond a few experts to all scientists.
The implementation combined IDBS ActivityBase as the canonical data store with SARview and SARgen as the query and SAR analysis layer, enabling cross-project compound-centric queries. New import templates were created to ingest assay data from additional departments including analytics and radiochemistry, and data validation procedures were configured to ensure that only the most up-to-date records are surfaced to project leaders.
Operational coverage extended to all scientists and research projects, unifying assay results across departments so queries could run across the full set of data for a given compound. IDBS and its partners provided user training and support for template creation and user onboarding, embedding ActivityBase into routine research workflows and enabling broader self-service analysis by scientists.
Governance was tightened through standardized templates and implemented data validation workflows that fed decision-making by project leaders. Outcomes explicitly reported by 3B Pharmaceuticals include improved research productivity, stronger data integrity, and higher quality of decision making as a result of the expanded ActivityBase roll-out.

Inventiva | Life Sciences | 123 | $18M | France | IDBS | IDBS ActivityBase | Analytics and BI | 2017 | n/a |
In 2017 Inventiva implemented IDBS ActivityBase, an Analytics and BI application, to centralize and accelerate high throughput screening and high content screening workflows. The deployment targeted Inventiva’s drug discovery operations in France and was scoped to support HTS and HCS assay execution and analysis across the research organization.
The implementation focused on ActivityBase’s HCS functionalities and high throughput screening capabilities, enabling inline display of high content images alongside analysis data, consolidated data capture, and graphical visualization of results in graph and curve form. IDBS ActivityBase was configured to enforce Inventiva’s analysis requirements and standards, improving data quality control during assay processing and simplifying the workflow for running and reviewing wells.
IDBS worked collaboratively with Inventiva using an agile development approach to integrate ActivityBase with laboratory equipment and existing reporting systems, completing the platform rollout in under a year. Integration was managed to ensure smooth reporting from instruments to the application, and Inventiva participated in configuration and acceptance to align the platform with operational needs.
As an outcome of the deployment, Inventiva reported a tenfold decrease in the time required to complete analysis and a measurable uptick in data quality, with positive feedback from researchers and plans to extend the platform footprint beyond the original scope. Governance changes included tighter enforcement of analysis standards within ActivityBase and collaborative workflows between scientists and the vendor during ongoing development and support.

Pfizer | Life Sciences | 81000 | $63.6B | United States | IDBS | IDBS ActivityBase | Analytics and BI | 2017 | n/a |
In 2017, Pfizer implemented IDBS ActivityBase to improve research reporting and test set analysis, aligning the deployment with Analytics and BI needs for program management and data review. Justin Gazard, Pharmacology and ADME Business Partner for Research Business Technology at Pfizer, positioned the project to help program managers assess success, compare projects, and monitor year over year trends in data generation and internalization.
The implementation emphasized reporting tools and test set management, using a web client ingestion path that produces fully realized ActivityBase test sets with analysis artifacts preserved. Configuration work focused on dashboards and program reporting for project progression, workflows to internalize, analyze and share data, and automation of routine import and analysis capture to reduce manual steps for scientists.
Operational coverage centered on research programs and collaborations with external partners, improving the ability to convey project expectations quickly and accurately. The web client based ingestion and preserved analysis artifacts enabled seamless handoffs between internal scientists and external collaborators, and standardized test sets supported cross program comparability and consistent review across project teams.
Governance evolved through iterative collaboration between Pfizer and IDBS, with Pfizer providing use cases that were incorporated into the base product to simplify workflows and reduce user effort. Reported outcomes included improved communication for programs, faster internalization and sharing of datasets, better capability to assess program success, time savings, reduced frustration for users, and ongoing joint product enhancement planning.
