Amgen | Life Sciences | 28000 | $33.4B | United States | MarkLogic | MarkLogic Semaphore | Cognitive Computing | 2023 | n/a |
In 2023, Amgen deployed MarkLogic Semaphore to build a modular, linked reference data hub for logistics intelligence and supply chain use cases. The deployment used the MarkLogic Semaphore application in the Cognitive Computing category to create a 360 degree view of lanes, shippers and related metadata to improve routing, compliance and analytics.
The implementation emphasized semantic AI capabilities, linked data modeling and entity resolution to standardize reference records and contextualize shipping lane attributes. Configuration work focused on modular data models, semantic indexing and query layers to support lane management workflows and operational analytics.
The program covered U.S and global supply chain operations, providing a single reference layer to surface consolidated metadata across logistics processes. Operational coverage included lane management, routing support, compliance screening and reporting and risk management use cases.
Governance centered on a centralized reference data hub and revised lane management workflows to enforce consistent metadata stewardship and reduce manual effort. The program delivered measurable operational efficiencies, reduced staff time for lane management, and improved reporting and risk management as described in the vendor case study.

HEROLD | Healthcare | 10 | $1M | Austria | MarkLogic | MarkLogic Semaphore | Cognitive Computing | 2014 | EBCONT |
In 2014, HEROLD implemented MarkLogic Semaphore as a Cognitive Computing deployment to consolidate and semantically manage business data. The implementation paired the Semaphore Ontology Manager with the MarkLogic database to ingest and harmonize more than 15 disparate data sources into a single canonical repository.
The consolidated repository powered product search, targeting and direct-marketing product workflows, and internal analytics across HEROLD operations in Austria. MarkLogic Semaphore enabled semantic enrichment, entity resolution and canonicalization through the ontology manager, improving data quality and enabling productized data outputs for external and internal use cases.
The project was delivered with implementation partner EBCONT and consolidated connections to 15 plus source systems, reducing infrastructure complexity and centralizing data access for marketing, product and analytics functions. A first customer-facing product was produced within six months, demonstrating an accelerated time-to-value milestone in the rollout.
Operational governance focused on the Semaphore Ontology Manager to enforce consistent taxonomies and semantic rules across use cases, simplifying downstream analytics and targeting workflows. The engagement produced improved data quality and created new revenue streams as described in the implementation summary.
