American Geophysical Union | Non Profit | 400 | $57M | United States | Rackspace Technology | Rackspace Application Operations | Professional Services | 2020 | n/a |
In 2020, American Geophysical Union implemented Rackspace Application Operations to consolidate and stabilize its digital publishing platform. The deployment used Rackspace Application Operations in the Professional Services category to optimize Sitecore on AWS and centralize tens of thousands of pages into a single content management environment for global web operations.
The implementation delivered a fully scaled, highly available Sitecore Experience Platform XP1 architecture across multiple environments, providing front end content delivery, dynamic personalization, analytics capture, and enhanced authoring and editing features. The Sitecore XP1 configuration included Dev, staging, and production tiers integrated into a highly available production topology, and platform modernization work focused on cloud optimization, application management and operations, and application security.
Operational integrations included Sitecore on Amazon Web Services, Rackspace Security Essentials, and Rackspace Managed Security Services through the Proactive Detection and Response service to provide continuous monitoring and active remediation using pre approved actions. The rollout reduced content sprawl by consolidating approximately 70,000 pages into one CMS and extended operational coverage to content editors, web operations, and developer teams, while enabling analytics driven insights for digital experience management.
Governance and process changes accompanied the technical work, with DevOps practices introduced to provide new endpoints and deployment methods for developers and ongoing 24x7x365 platform management from Rackspace Technology. The migration was completed on time, resulting in a more stable and easier to manage website, faster page updates for content editors, and the addition of proactive security monitoring to protect online assets.

Cando Rail & Terminals | Professional Services | 900 | $500M | Canada | Rackspace Technology | Rackspace Application Operations | Professional Services | 2017 | n/a |
In 2017, Cando Rail & Terminals implemented Rackspace Application Operations to support its Quasar IoT platform, deploying a serverless architecture to process and deliver sensor data within the Professional Services category and to support logistics and supply chain operations. The Rackspace Application Operations engagement was explicitly focused on ingesting telemetry from train carriages, implementing CI/CD pipelines, and improving cost efficiency, scalability and stability for customer-facing data delivery.
The implementation re-architected Cando’s AWS footprint toward serverless and cloud-native patterns, employing Amazon API Gateway, AWS Lambda, Amazon CloudFront, Amazon ECS, Amazon S3, AWS SNS, Amazon Certificate Manager, Amazon RDS and Amazon EC2 alongside infrastructure as code and automation. Rackspace Technology’s Onica Teams model provided a dedicated pool of monthly hours to configure CI/CD best practices, apply security hardening, and operationalize infrastructure as code to shorten deployment and change cycles.
Integrations were executed to forward existing IoT streams into the new environment, notably by subscribing existing AWS SNS topics into the reworked architecture to preserve ongoing data flows from multiple sensor sources. Operational coverage included continuous monitoring and support delivered by Onica as a 24x7x365 network operations capability, and close collaboration with Cando’s internal development teams and external vendors to coordinate rollouts and last-minute service support.
Governance and process changes centralized alarming and alerting by consolidating seven or eight monitoring tools into a unified monitoring posture, and introduced a ramp-down cost optimization approach to allow tighter control of schedules and spend. The Onica Teams engagement model also established a recurring operational cadence for ongoing optimization, security patching and platform enhancements.
The project delivered stated outcomes of lower operational costs, improved predictability, reliability and performance, and dramatically faster deployments, reducing deployment times from 90 seconds to under two seconds. These changes enabled more rapid change cycles for the Quasar platform and supported Cando’s ability to onboard larger customers while maintaining secure, automated operations.

Dh Life Sciences | Life Sciences | 63000 | $23.9B | United States | Rackspace Technology | Rackspace Application Operations | Professional Services | 2016 | n/a |
In 2016, Danaher implemented Rackspace Application Operations under the Professional Services category to deliver a cloud native, HIPAA-compliant solution for dental imaging and patient data access. The initiative targeted Danaher Imaging Technologies and thousands of dental customers globally, creating a hybrid architecture to connect physical dental practices with cloud-based services and cloud-connected medical devices.
Onica by Rackspace Technology performed custom development to create a single-software solution deployable to both the cloud and in-office environments, consolidating prior thick-client tools. The implementation used AWS as the platform and incorporated CloudFormation for infrastructure automation, Chef for configuration management and application deployments, and a Jenkins based continuous integration and delivery pipeline that enforces medical device controls and enables one-click environment provisioning.
The deployment scope included multiple operating companies within Danaher and covered cloud adoption and migration, application management and operations, and Internet of Things and Edge use cases for dental imaging devices. Rackspace Application Operations was engineered to be self-healing across availability zones to maintain application continuity, and Onica by Rackspace Technology now operates as Danaher’s 24x7x365 operations center for the cloud-based dental imaging products.
Governance and compliance were explicit design constraints, Rackspace Application Operations was built to honor AWS requirements for HIPAA applications, and the resulting environment was independently assessed for HIPAA and security compliance. The deployment now supports thousands of dentists with remote access and backup of patient data, simplified full-environment deployments, and continuous operations enabled by automated provisioning and self-healing infrastructure.
