SAMPENSION | Banking and Financial Services | 303 | $460M | Denmark | SimCorp | SimCorp Performance & Risk Management | Risk Management | 2019 | n/a |
In 2019, SAMPENSION implemented SimCorp Performance & Risk Management as a strategic Risk Management platform to retain straight through processing advantages while reducing reliance on in-house software development. The decision aimed to secure a long term software solution that could match and support SAMPENSION's advanced in-house risk management setup and preserve market leadership on the Danish pension market.
The implementation of SimCorp Performance & Risk Management delivered core risk management capabilities including support for a universe of approximately 60 risk factors covering index, interest rates, spreads, FX, and volatilities, along with Parametric VaR and Monte Carlo simulation engines. The solution also provides daily reporting and transparent drill down to the most detailed level, and ensures coverage across the wide variety of assets in SAMPENSION's portfolios.
Architecturally the platform leveraged existing data stored in SimCorp Dimension, resulting in a single platform integration that maintains consistency of positions, market data, static data, and pricing. SAMPENSION evaluated third party systems but rejected those options because they would have required interfacing from SimCorp Dimension and introduced dependency on external data and methodology, leading to the selection of the integrated SimCorp Dimension Risk Management solution.
Governance and operational ownership were structured so that SAMPENSION retains control of the data used in their risk models while transferring software development and maintenance responsibility to an externally developed and maintained platform. This approach reduced dependency on in-house development, reduced operational risk through unified data and processing, and ensured full asset coverage and transparency for risk and reporting functions.
