In 2012 Aldi Spain implemented SAP Retail as its Retail Management platform across its Spanish operations, executing a multiunit rollout across four Spanish business units. The deployment centralized retail processes to support store operations, inventory control, pricing and merchandising workflows while aligning financial reporting and controlling functions with head office requirements.
SAP Retail was configured to deliver core retail capabilities including merchandising, inventory management, pricing and point of sale orchestration, together with master data governance and financial controlling tied to retail transactions. The implementation reflected standard Retail Management functional patterns, and SAP Retail was used to consolidate transactional retail data and enable consistent store level configuration across the four units.
The program integrated SAP Retail with other IT systems in scope, including payroll and financial reporting systems, to align HR, accounting, finance and back office workflows. Operational coverage explicitly included the companys HR, accounting, finance, controlling and back office departments, and the deployment supported both store facing and corporate finance processes.
Governance was driven by an internal ERP Task Force with the Head of HR and Administration participating in planning and implementation while overseeing controlling and HR process alignment. The rollout included process review and departmental goal setting to enforce compliance with Spanish employment law and to standardize payroll and reporting procedures, and those continuous procedure reviews were associated with annual increases in productivity and improvements in payroll indicators as reported by the Head of HR.
