Costco Retail 333000 $254.5B United States SAP SAP S/4 HANA Transportation Management Transportation Management 2017 n/a In 2017, Costco implemented SAP S/4 HANA Transportation Management as its enterprise Transportation Management solution. The implementation replaced Blue Yonder Transportation Management and established a decentralized S4 and TM topology to orchestrate both inbound and outbound movements across Costco distribution flows. The deployment included SAP TM base configuration across Road, Rail, Air and Ocean modes, and detailed master data work for Transportation Network Master Data and Resource Master Data. Functional capabilities implemented included Freight Unit Building Rule Requirements, conditions and incompatibilities, planning and selection profiles, tendering and charge management, freight unit types, freight order types, booking types, and the freight settlement process, along with a customized shipping schedule worksheet to create outbound Shell Freight Orders that are transferred to Extended Warehouse Management for actual load building and delivery upon goods receipt. Integrations were instrumented with Extended Warehouse Management, Yard Logistics 2.0, Event Management, Global Trade Services and the S4 core, with Event Management used to configure and register track and trace events. The project orchestrated a distribution prototype solution that linked transportation planning to warehouse execution and yard operations, and it integrated both inbound and outbound movement processes into SAP S/4 HANA Transportation Management. Governance and rollout followed SAP Model Company Implementation methodology, including configuration and mapping of a Collaboration Portal and a prototype for strategic freight procurement covering freight bidding and contract management. The implementation centered on SAP S/4 HANA Transportation Management in the Transportation Management category, aligning transport planning, execution and settlement processes under centralized configuration and event driven tracking.
