AND1, subsidiary of Galaxy Universal | Retail | 100 | $25M | United States | SAP | SAP Apparel and Footwear (SAP AFS) | Retail Management | 2003 |
In 2003, AND1 implemented SAP Apparel and Footwear (SAP AFS) within the Retail Management category with Answerthink as the implementation partner, pursuing an integrated platform to support logistics, distribution, financials and reporting and to establish a first comprehensive product lifecycle management capability. The deployment was anchored at the company headquarters in Paoli, Pa., and targeted support for domestic and overseas channels as AND1 scaled product development and retail distribution.
SAP Apparel and Footwear (SAP AFS) was configured to cover apparel and footwear specific master data and transactional processes and included SD, MM and FI module work on AFS objects. The implementation delivered form and document management through SAP smartform designs for delivery and invoice forms, credit and debit billing statements and purchase order and sales order layouts, and produced ALV business reports. ABAP development work extended core processes using user exits, function modules and search helps to align AFS behavior with AND1 business rules.
The SAP AFS environment was integrated with mySAP Product Lifecycle Management mySAP PLM, mySAP Financials and mySAP Human Resources mySAP HR to create cross functional data flows between design, finance, HR and supply chain. Parallel web and data initiatives included online sales order and advertisement interfaces built in ASP.NET and VB.NET with backend support on Microsoft SQL and Oracle databases and DTS and LDAP services for data manipulation and user provisioning. Functional scope emphasized planning, prototyping and distribution workflows to support the company cadence of roughly 150 new shoe designs annually across three selling seasons.
Answerthink led a business blueprinting process that codified known best practices and AND1 growth plans into system configuration and workflow changes, creating governance artifacts for PLM version control, design and development timelines and milestone tracking. The solution aimed to improve the company ability to assess consumer buying patterns, leverage market opportunities and keep costs under control while enabling improved planning, forecasting and management of sales and financial performance.
