Breton | Manufacturing | 450 | $100M | Italy | AVEVA Group | AVEVA Historian (ex Wonderware Historian) | Data Historian | 2019 |
In 2019, Breton embedded AVEVA Historian (ex Wonderware Historian) and AVEVA System Platform into its next generation stone processing machines as part of a Stratus ztC Edge architecture. The implementation used AVEVA Historian as the Data Historian for on machine data collection and virtualization, provisioning local redundancy and high availability at the OEM machine node level. Deployment architecture centered on Stratus ztC Edge appliances co located with machine controls to provide persistent historical storage and edge virtualization for machine telemetry.
AVEVA acted as the SI/VAR and Wonderware Italia partnered on the SCADA and MES integration to instrument machine telemetry into plant supervisory systems. The scope covered OEM machine deployments and machine level data management for Breton customers, simplifying setup and accelerating design and deployment cycles according to Breton. Governance focused on historian configuration, local virtualization policies, and redundancy planning for customer machines.

INPEX Corporation | Oil, Gas and Chemicals | 3364 | $2.3B | Japan | Microsoft | Microsoft Azure Cloud Services | Application Hosting and Computing Services | 2022 |
In 2022, INPEX Corporation migrated its PI System infrastructure onto Microsoft Azure Cloud Services. The project used Microsoft Azure Cloud Services as the Application Hosting and Computing Services platform to centralize time series and historian workloads that support commissioning and operations across the INPEX group, including sites in Japan and INPEX Australia.
The implementation re-implemented PI System infrastructure as an enterprise historian and operational data platform, explicitly designed to meet a zero data loss philosophy required for the Ichthys LNG commissioning. Configuration work focused on high-availability and data continuity patterns common to cloud-hosted historian deployments, including persistent time-series storage, buffered data ingress, and platform-level compute provisioning to host PI System services and ancillary analytics components.
Integrations documented in the presentation include PI System linkage to business intelligence tooling and a managed machine learning infrastructure, enabling collaboration between data scientists and system engineers. AVEVA participated as the SI/VAR in the migration and the architecture description covered cross-group connectivity and centralized hosting on Azure, reflecting consolidated Application Hosting and Computing Services for operational and analytical use cases.
Governance and operational ownership shifted toward INPEXs Digital Transformation Group, which led PI administration, user instruction, and iterative enhancement of PI analytics. The migration was positioned to mitigate ongoing maintenance workloads and to optimize INPEXs corporate IT footprint, while meeting operational governance requirements tied to zero data loss during large-scale commissioning activities.

Thungela Resources | Oil, Gas and Chemicals | 4446 | $1.6B | South Africa | AVEVA Group | AVEVA Production Management | Manufacturing Execution System | 2024 |
In 2024 Thungela Resources, through its Mafube Coal operations, implemented AVEVA Production Management as a Manufacturing Execution System to digitise production monitoring at its Mpumalanga operations. The AVEVA Production Management deployment went into use on 8 April 2024 and was delivered with AVEVA, IS3, AVEVA Select Southern Africa and Rifle Shot Performance Holdings to address operational visibility and downtime control.
The implementation centered on the AVEVA Production Management Downtime module to digitise downtime tracking and to link conveyor and equipment run states to event records. Configuration work included event-driven run state capture, configuration of downtime reason codes and sequencing logic, and the creation of near real-time production KPI feeds and dashboards for shift and operations teams.
Operational integration focused on instrumenting conveyor and equipment run states as event sources and mapping those states into the MES event model so production KPIs could be calculated in near real-time. The deployment architecture emphasized plant-level data capture and event orchestration within AVEVA Production Management, enabling production operations and maintenance teams to use a single source of truth for downtime and throughput reporting.
Governance and process changes accompanied the technical roll out, standardizing downtime logging and event attribution across Mafube Coal sites and formalizing KPI consumption for operational decision making. The project produced measurable operational visibility improvements and received an AVEVA IS3 X-Change award for business value and ROI, indicating recognized business impact from the Manufacturing Execution System implementation.
