In 2015, Deutsche Post implemented Alight Payroll (ex NGA Payroll) to address an expiring outsourced payroll support arrangement for its DHL operations, aligning the company with a new Payroll service model. The implementation targeted DHL units that comprise nearly 50,000 employees across more than 500 operating locations and a continuous 24 hour operation, requiring a payroll platform able to manage complex pay structures and continuous run cycles.
The deployment used the ResourceLink offering from NGA, branded as Alight Payroll, and focused on configuring core payroll capabilities including a pay calculation engine for variable pay scales, shift differentials, overtime rules, expense processing and scheduled payroll runs. i-Realise acted as the implementation advisor and project manager, conducting requirements gathering, an as is analysis of operational processes, and defining to be state processes so the Alight Payroll configuration matched diverse site level practices.
Integration and operational coverage centered on aligning the Alight Payroll system with DHL operational processes and the outsourced payroll supplier delivery model rather than introducing new named third party system integrations. i-Realise visited multiple operating locations, mapped stakeholder responsibilities across departments and designed a communication and training plan to reach tens of thousands of employees, ensuring process owners could operate the Payroll platform within existing HR and payroll support structures.
Governance and rollout were structured around a detailed change map, phased validation and a structured testing programme, including parallel runs with the incumbent payroll delivery before go live. The go live result was that all staff were paid on time and correctly, and the change management and engagement approach developed during the Alight Payroll implementation was subsequently reused in other business change programmes.
