Rochling Group | Manufacturing | 11988 | $3.0B | Germany | SAP | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | ERP Financial | 2012 |
In 2012, Rochling Group implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as its ERP Financial solution for the Automotive division, aligning core finance processes with consolidated SAP Basis responsibilities. The implementation was centered at the Worms site while supporting a globally operating Automotive business with more than 7,300 employees across 60 locations in 20 countries, establishing SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as the finance backbone for that division.
The technical architecture combined SAP ERP ECC 6.0 with a heterogeneous server landscape of IBM i and Intel systems, upgraded to Power7 servers and DS family storage arrays. Storage virtualization was introduced through a SAN Volume Controller SVC installed as a stretched cluster, enabling cross site mirroring of application data and a third room configured as the quorum disk, while backups were handled to an LTO library.
Operations and managed services were defined and executed by UBL Managed Services, with UBL responsible for IBM i and Intel system operations and permanent monitoring using Nagios, and iCAS AG providing SAP support for SAP Basis tasks. Service definitions included regular infrastructure services, continuous monitoring, and 24 hour support coverage to ensure availability of SAP ERP ECC 6.0 and associated applications such as Lotus Notes on site in Worms.
Governance and process changes centered on shifting routine system administration to the managed services model, securing predictable qualified care and making specialists available outside core working hours. Reported outcomes included increased IT availability, improved storage and application performance through virtualization and stretched clustering, and the ability for internal IT staff to concentrate more on application support and business processes.
