In 2019, Medibank Health Solutions implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its finance core under an ERP Financial program named Project Springboard. The deployment positioned SAP S/4 HANA as the primary finance application within an integrated SAP stack that also includes SAP Ariba for procurement and SAP SuccessFactors for HR and payroll. Project Springboard served as the program governance construct for the cross-functional rollout across finance, procurement, and HR domains.
SAP S/4 HANA was configured to deliver core ERP Financial capabilities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial close orchestration, and cash and treasury management, aligning record-to-report and order-to-cash workflows. The implementation centralized financial master data, chart of accounts rationalization, and transaction posting automation consistent with ERP Financial best practices. Procurement processes were extended through SAP Ariba to enable procure-to-pay flows and sourcing integration.
IBM served as the systems integrator for Project Springboard, coordinating integration workstreams between SAP S/4 HANA, SAP Ariba, and SAP SuccessFactors. Integration responsibilities focused on procure-to-pay connectivity, supplier onboarding and catalog links, and HR to payroll data exchanges carried through an enterprise integration layer that connects procurement, finance, and HR transactions. The architecture emphasized enterprise-wide connectivity and centralized process ownership to govern master data and change control across modules.
The program brought SAP Ariba into the Medibank ecosystem and centered spend analytics on the Ariba platform as part of procurement modernization. Medibank retained SAP S/4 HANA as the finance backbone, SAP Ariba for procurement and spend analytics, and SAP SuccessFactors for HR and payroll under Project Springboard governance.

In 2018 Medibank Health Solutions implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as a central element of its Core HR program under the Springboard initiative. The Springboard project aimed to consolidate HR, Finance and Procurement onto SAP solutions, and the Employee Central rollout was explicitly positioned alongside SuccessFactors Onboarding, Recruitment, Performance, Employee Central Payroll and Workforce Software to create a unified HR platform.
Configuration work focused on standard Core HR functions and downstream HR workflows, with SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central configured for workforce profile management, onboarding orchestration and performance data synchronization. Functional teams at Medibank adjusted People Services and Payroll processes to align with the new system, and the implementation emphasized automation of HR case handling and HR to payroll handoffs.
The deployment used the SAP SuccessFactors cloud suite integrated with Medibank s finance and procurement stack, with explicit integrations to S4 / HANA for finance orchestration and Ariba for procurement touchpoints, and orchestration to Employee Central Payroll and Workforce Software for time and pay processes. IBM served as the system integrator, and Medibank s delivery approach included building integrations to other business critical systems to maximize end to end automation.
Governance included a structured quarterly regression test cycle for each SuccessFactors release, incident resolution workflows with SAP support when required, and ongoing configuration governance driven by a dedicated functional consultant and business analyst. Explicit operational outcomes noted in the program included simplifying superannuation payments by reducing clearing house accounts from three to one, and deploying a People Query System to improve case tracking and reporting for the People Services team.
