In 2015, Stahl implemented SAP Enterprise Asset Management using Mainnovation as the implementation partner, deploying the SAP Plant Maintenance module to professionalize maintenance processes at its Waalwijk site and establish a repeatable model for its global operations. The work targeted Stahl’s maintenance and engineering functions across production sites, aligning the Enterprise Asset Management deployment with the company’s multi-site manufacturing footprint and the needs of plant operations and maintenance teams.
Mainnovation developed the SAP EAM blueprint from the VDMXL Maintenance Process Map, translating validated work processes, tasks and responsibilities into a prototype SAP Enterprise Asset Management design. The project centered on the SAP Plant Maintenance module as the functional core, and Mainnovation assumed responsibility for configuration, integration, and data conversion, using its Expert Driven Implementation method to build and validate the prototype prior to full configuration.
The configured PM module was integrated into Stahl’s system landscape and prepared for roll-out through structured acceptance tests, user training and documentation, and monitored go-live support. Mainnovation provided aftercare including training, acceptance testing and go-live monitoring, while Stahl executed the initial roll-out to sites in Spain, China, Singapore, Mexico and India with Mainnovation supporting system settings. Subsequent plant additions in Germany, Italy, Brazil and India were incorporated later following acquisitions.
Governance and process control were instituted through facilitated workshops, the participation of the Group Engineering Manager and Plant Manager in training and acceptance activities, and the use of pre-developed VDMXL process maps to accelerate decision making. The largest production site went live within four months, completed on schedule and budget without operational interruptions, demonstrating the controlled rollout and operational continuity achieved during the SAP Enterprise Asset Management implementation.
