Emerson Electric | Manufacturing | 73000 | $17.5B | United States | Oracle | Oracle WebCenter Content | Content Management,Document Management,Intelligent Document Processing | 2012 |
In 2012, Emerson Electric implemented Oracle WebCenter Content to establish a single source of truth for content and business processes across its Emerson Process Management subsidiary. Emerson Process Management operates roughly 32,000 employees in global manufacturing locations and sought a centralized content platform to improve user experience and operational efficiency. The deployment targeted content and document management use cases under the Content Management,Document Management,Intelligent Document Processing category and aimed to consolidate multiple content repositories that had caused end user confusion.
Oracle WebCenter Content was configured with complementary modules and capture technologies, including Inbound Refinery and Kofax capture, to standardize content conversion and enable electronic capture of invoices, import export documents, and regulated trade documents. Redstone Content Solutions assisted with bulk, programmatic content and metadata ingestion using its Synergy Hub solution and performed large scale batch uploads and migration of content items into Oracle WebCenter Content. Emerson and Redstone built more than three hundred content centric applications on the WebCenter enterprise infrastructure to support automated ingestion, indexing, and lifecycle management.
Integrations were explicitly implemented with back office systems, including Oracle E Business Suite and CRM On Demand, to surface enterprise content in transactional and customer contexts. Redstone’s Distributed Index was deployed to improve indexing and search performance, enabling sub second search responses on millions of items, and content was exposed through intranet and extranet channels to service both internal employees and customers. The scope of the implementation included records retention and legal hold requirements, with configured retention and records management controls for regulated document types.
Governance and operational controls were formalized through Emerson’s Knowledge Network and Information Services organization, led by Mark Heindselman, working in close partnership with Redstone Content Solutions. The program targeted enforcement of global content security requirements, reduction of redundant information, and standardized content conversion workflows to support compliance and discoverability. Redstone acted as a strategic implementation partner over an extended engagement, supporting rollout activities, application development, and ongoing indexing and ingestion operations.
Documented outcomes included a quoted 177% risk adjusted ROI with a twelve month payback period after deployment, and a risk adjusted present value of benefits of $5,177,744 over four years. Operationally, six thousand global end users adopted Oracle WebCenter Content as a daily productivity tool, and stakeholders reported sub second search results on millions of content items enabled by Distributed Index. The implementation therefore combined Oracle WebCenter Content with capture, ingestion, indexing, and system integrations to address enterprise content consolidation, records retention, and high performance search requirements.
