SAP Legacy SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial ERP Financial Management n/a 2019 2020
In 2019 Equitable implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial backbone to centralize finance and tax reporting across its Life and Non Life businesses. The SAP S/4 HANA implementation was positioned to support US Income Tax provision workflows and periodic tax close activities for a large US public insurance company. The deployment emphasized SAP ledger and subledger capabilities, including configuration of the Financial Products Subledger FPSL for granular posting and balance detail. Equitable configured company, product, and account hierarchies within SAP S/4 HANA and produced SAP S/4 HANA reports specific to US Income Tax, with automated posting balances routed for tax provisioning. The implementation integrated SAP S/4 HANA with a Corptax US Income Tax Provision Solution, automating feeds for investments, reserves, deferred acquisition costs DAC, GAAP to STAT and other tax adjustments based on US GAAP, STAT, and IRS rules. The project included conversion of tax accounts from SAP Copernic into SAP S/4 HANA and automated transmission of ledger and subledger data into Corptax to support annual and quarterly tax close and tax return procedures. Governance and process redesign were centered on the Tax Department, with a director level consultant leading alignment of SAP S/4 HANA and Corptax workflows, reviewing and approving hierarchy designs, and directing all income tax aspects of the project. The program involved collaboration with Big Four external consultants and created formal control points for tax close, reporting, and approval within the SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial environment.

In 2010, Equitable implemented FIS Relius for Benefits Administration,Pension Administration to centralize retirement plan administration and participant servicing. The deployment at Equitable in Syracuse, NY focused on operationalizing FIS Relius as the core administration application for 403(b) and 457(b) plan onboarding and ongoing recordkeeping. The FIS Relius implementation included configuration and operationalization of plan setup workflows and investment provider management, with over 300 new 403(b) and 457(b) plans and 120 investment providers provisioned from completed plan and onboarding documents. Functional capabilities implemented included plan configuration, investment provider mapping, participant record creation, contribution processing, and business reporting using Crystal to support client and management needs. Operational integration emphasized file-based payroll and contribution processing, with reviewed, balanced, and processed payroll files and adjustments prior to final transmission, and daily reconciliations for inbound and outbound contributions. The team supported system upgrades and testing in FIS Relius, validating payroll transmission flows and data reconciliation routines as part of release activities. Governance and process change addressed inefficient business processes by implementing procedures to streamline and automate workflow, and by preparing business reports to inform client servicing and management decision making. Client support and operational governance were organized around ongoing plan onboarding, reconciliation controls, and upgrade testing to maintain administration continuity. Outcomes included sustained client support practices and initiatives that helped drive client satisfaction scores of at least 90 percent, as reported by the Equitable team managing FIS Relius.
