| Oracle | Legacy | Oracle E-Business Suite | ERP Financial | ERP | Sierra-Cedar | 2018 | 2018 |
In 2018 Kansas State University engaged Sierra-Cedar to restore its PeopleSoft Human Capital Management production system on AWS after a fire damaged the on site data center, initiating a broader cloud first strategy that included Oracle E-Business Suite as the universitys ERP Financial platform. The engagement tied into K-States One IT strategic plan established in 2019, which prioritized modernization of core administrative systems and a move of major workloads to AWS.
The Oracle E-Business Suite deployment focused on core ERP Financial capabilities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset accounting, and financial reporting and period close workflows. Configuration work emphasized standard financial module setups and batch processing automation consistent with higher education finance operations, while Oracle E-Business Suite was positioned to operate alongside PeopleSoft modules to retain campus administrative continuity.
Architecturally the implementation was hosted on AWS cloud infrastructure, with Sierra-Cedar providing migration services and ongoing managed services in AWS post migration. The project migrated PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, PeopleSoft HCM, and Oracle E-Business Suite into the same cloud environment to simplify integration, streamline infrastructure management, and centralize operational support for central finance and administrative units across the university.
Governance followed the One IT organizational priorities, aligning operational ownership for ERP Financial processes with centralized IT and finance stakeholders, and establishing managed services handoffs to Sierra-Cedar for run operations in AWS. The move to AWS and the managed services model explicitly improved system performance and increased HCM availability according to the project summary, while enabling a consolidated operational model for Oracle E-Business Suite and related administrative systems.
