In 2015, Nedbank implemented SAP Ariba Invoice as part of a cloud based Ariba deployment. SAP Ariba Invoice, positioned within the AP Automation category, was deployed to centralize invoice processing for procurement and finance and to standardize invoice handling across the bank.
The implementation leveraged Ariba sourcing and invoice management applications delivered on the Ariba Network, aligning sourcing workflows with electronic invoice management capabilities. Configuration work focused on standardizing systems, master data, and processes to enable coordinated procure to pay workflows and supplier collaboration.
Nedbank integrated the Ariba applications with its SAP ERP system to manage procurement and financial processes, suppliers and spend from a single interface, unifying procurement and finance data flows. The deployment was applied across the bank’s operations to create a common platform for supplier engagement and invoice lifecycle management.
Governance and process transformation accompanied the technical rollout, with Business Transformation leadership driving standardization and a more collaborative operating model. Nedbank reported that the Ariba deployment enabled reduced costs, increased efficiency and improved performance as explicit outcomes of the program.

Program governance included centralized contingent labor policy enforcement, supplier accreditation and compliance checkpoints, and program-level reporting and audit controls. Public LinkedIn records indicate a SAP Fieldglass technical consultant at NedBank in June 2023, signaling continued technical configuration and support activity following the 2020 deployment.

In 2014 NedBank implemented IBM BPM Standard to establish a Business Process Management capability. The implementation focused on automating processes across the BPM lifecycle, including process analysis, mapping, re engineering and monitoring, and was coordinated from the NedBank BPM team base in Sandton, Gauteng with the BPM Squad Team Lead directing development and optimisation efforts.
The IBM BPM Standard implementation encompassed functional modules for process modelling, runtime orchestration, task management and monitoring, with configuration to define and maintain business processes and procedures that meet organisational standards. Development used JavaScript within the IBM BPM product to implement custom service logic and UI behavior, supported by functional requirement gathering and system analysis activities to drive process optimisation.
ARIS was used as the modeling platform alongside IBM BPM, enabling process mapping and re engineering with a modeling to runtime handoff. System integration work was performed within the IBM BPM product to connect new and existing business processes into interim end to end flows, ensuring orchestration across services and operational teams.
Governance and rollout were led by the BPM Squad Team Lead who developed team strategy, delivered training, communicated CoE methodologies and best practices, and managed day to day operations to align process management with organisational methodology. The engagement formalised process definition, monitoring practices and role based responsibilities for process ownership across the Bank’s BPM Centre of Excellence and associated IT and business process teams.
