In 2018, SM Investments implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform. The program was led by the Senior Manager IT for Finance who was directly accountable to the CEO, CIO, and Controllers for delivery of critical finance systems, and it executed a Big Bang rollout covering more than 50 SM Department Store and retail affiliate entities, constituting the first and largest SAP S/4 HANA implementation within the SM group.
The SAP S/4 HANA deployment concentrated on core ERP Financial capabilities, including general ledger consolidation, accounts payable and receivable processes, fiscal year configuration, and centralized cash management. Configuration activities included conversion of Uniqlo books to a new fiscal year setup and implementation of automation rules to standardize voucher and gift pass processing across participating entities.
Integrations and adjacent systems were implemented to address operational and regulatory needs, including automation of Gift Pass and Voucher processing with Sodexo, a Customer Information System for forex and remittance services to support BSP and AMLA compliance, and a centralized cash box monitoring system for treasury oversight. These integrations were connected to SAP S/4 HANA to consolidate transactional processing, compliance reporting, and cash visibility across retail affiliates.
Governance and rollout control were centralized under the Senior Manager IT for Finance with direct executive oversight to coordinate the Big Bang cutover across over 50 companies. The program delivered a successful transition to SAP S/4 HANA and established standardized financial processes and centralized controls across the SM Investments retail group.
