SAP Legacy SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial ERP n/a 2022 2023
In 2022 City of Tacoma initiated a technical migration to SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform. The program is scoped as a technical move rather than a broad fit-to-standard reengineering, and it preserves existing ECC HR functionality and ESS during the transition. Implementation scope centers on municipal finance and human capital management, with SAP S/4 HANA targeted to assume transactional financial and continued HCM processing from SAP ECC. The City explicitly declined a large fit-to-standard effort, instead expecting selected vendors to surface any custom development that conflicts with standard S/4 functionality and to propose remediations before implementing them. Functional add-ons and third-party extensions are a core signal for cutover timing, two bolt-ons named BDEx and Xponential must be upgraded and go live concurrently with SAP S/4 HANA, and those bolt-on upgrades will be executed by their respective vendors. The City also requires a solution for its cass certification software, and additional extensions in scope include Esole, Verint, and Liquid UI. Integration architecture is constrained and described by the City, most interfaces route through SAP PI, SAP BTP, or a single Business Connector interface using protocols https, sftp with flat files, RFC, and jdbc. The City completed the SAP Readiness Check for SAP S/4HANA and has not performed specific program readiness checks for interfaces, and no custom code analysis or t-shirt sizing results were provided in the procurement responses.

SAP Legacy SAP ERP HCM Benefits Benefits Administration HCM n/a 2018 2018
In 2018 the City of Tacoma implemented SAP ERP HCM Benefits within its SAP HCM environment. The deployment targeted SAP ECC6.07 running on HANA and was staffed through the Information Technology Department with a Business Analyst II serving as configurator and subject matter expert. SAP ERP HCM Benefits was configured across core HCM modules including SAP Personal Administration PA, Benefits BN, Organizational Management OM, Payroll PY, Personal Time Management PT, and the Employee Self Services ESS Portal. The configuration emphasis aligned with Benefits Administration needs, enabling eligibility rules, enrollment workflows, and payroll deduction mappings consistent with municipal HR processes. Work focused on parameterization, rules setup, and standard module configuration rather than bespoke application development. Functional orchestration linked Benefits BN to Payroll PY and the Employee Self Services ESS Portal so that enrollment events and deduction changes propagated through the HCM stack. Configuration and integration testing were executed within the SAP ECC6.07 on HANA architecture, with the internal configurator responsible for scenario based validation and cutover activities. The full application name SAP ERP HCM Benefits is reflected in the HCM configuration and operational artifacts. Governance and rollout were centered on an internal Business Analyst II who functioned as the second tier HRIS subject matter expert, accountable for configuration, scenario analysis, and supporting moderate to complex benefits cases. Process changes included standardizing benefits configuration and routing benefit related transactions through ESS for employee initiated actions. Configuration ownership remained with the City of Tacoma IT and HR stakeholders.

IFS Hitachi Ventyx Mobile WFM IFS Clevest Field Service Management ERP Services and Operations n/a 2018 2018
In 2018, City of Tacoma implemented IFS Clevest as its Field Service Management application. The deployment replaced Hitachi Ventyx Mobile WFM for field operations and established IFS Clevest as the primary mobile workforce and work order platform for city utilities. The IFS Clevest implementation centered on Field Service Management capabilities including mobile workforce management, work order creation and execution, scheduling and dispatch, and asset and inventory tracking. IFS Clevest was configured to support offline mobile execution and crew-based field workflows consistent with municipal utility maintenance operations. GG/TPU is identified as the organization responsible for decommissioning the ABB Ventyx Service Suite landscape, and that decommissioning will occur once existing users have been transitioned off the ABB environment. The implementation narrative therefore covers both the live cutover to IFS Clevest and the controlled retirement of ABB Ventyx Service Suite under GG/TPU governance. Operational scope included field operations within City of Tacoma utilities and maintenance business functions, with governance and user transition oversight assigned to GG/TPU. Rollout and transition governance emphasized staged user moves and a formal decommissioning handoff for the ABB Ventyx Service Suite to ensure continuity of Field Service Management operations.
