AdventHealth | Healthcare | 92000 | $18.0B | United States | Alertus Technologies | Alert Beacon | Incident Management | 2017 | n/a |
In 2017, AdventHealth deployed Alert Beacon as part of a targeted Emergency Mass Notification initiative across Shawnee Mission Medical Center and Shawnee Mission Health. The implementation focused on extending notification reach into building areas where staff presence could not be relied upon to manually inform occupants of an issue or threat.
The deployment combined Alert Beacon hardware with Alertus Desktop Notification to create multi-modal alerting, with Alertus Alert Beacons installed in lull locations to provide localized audible and visual alarms. Emergency notifications were also configured to push to hallway TV monitors that ordinarily display marketing content, enabling a secondary visual channel for desktop and display alerts.
Operational coverage centered on facility-level communications at Shawnee Mission Medical Center and the broader Shawnee Mission Health network, addressing gaps in real time mass communication across clinical and nonclinical spaces. The technical approach emphasized device-level beacon placement and desktop notification configuration to ensure consistent alert propagation across endpoints within the hospital environment.
Governance and roadmap activity were led by local security and communications stakeholders, with plans to further tailor the mass notification strategy by leveraging the Alertus system integration capabilities. The combined use of Alert Beacon and Alertus Desktop Notification fulfilled critical gaps in Shawnee Mission Medical Center and Shawnee Mission Health communications, enabling more complete Emergency Mass Notification coverage.

Boston University | Education | 15000 | $4.0B | United States | Alertus Technologies | Alert Beacon | Incident Management | 2019 | n/a |
In 2019, Boston University deployed Alert Beacon for Emergency Mass Notification to strengthen on-site alerting and cross-institution coordination. The deployment was positioned to improve real-time communication between Boston University and Boston Medical Center and to provide visible and audible notification across campus public spaces.
Alert Beacon units were configured to sound, flash, and display a message when an emergency notification is dispatched, with multi-modal alerts used to reach occupants in high-traffic and operational areas. The implementation emphasized audible alarms, visible strobes, and on-device message banners as core functional capabilities of the Alert Beacon application.
Operational coverage extended to campus public safety, facilities operations, and student affairs workflows, aligning alert initiation with existing emergency dispatch processes. The rollout used zoned control and targeted messaging to limit notifications to affected buildings and spaces while preserving campus-wide escalation paths consistent with Emergency Mass Notification practices.
Governance established procedures for alert initiation and cross-institution coordination, defining responsibilities for message dispatch and on-site response with Boston Medical Center stakeholders. The Alert Beacon units sound, flash, and display a message when an emergency notification is dispatched, which established better communication and coordination between Boston University and Boston Medical Center.

Clark State Community College | Education | 1068 | $150M | United States | Alertus Technologies | Alert Beacon | Incident Management | 2018 | n/a |
In 2018, Clark State Community College deployed Alert Beacon as part of a campus wide Emergency Mass Notification program across its multi campus environment. Duffee implemented Alertus Desktop Notification to deliver immediate pop up alert messages to all network connected computerized devices, ensuring notifications reach users even though campuses are located in different cities.
The deployment included the Alertus ThreatWatcher tool to automatically broadcast real time weather updates from the National Weather Service into the Emergency Mass Notification workflow. Duffee also planned integration of Alertus VoIPphone notification with the campus Cisco phone system, a configuration intended to transform phones on all three campus locations into an additional mass notification channel.
To provide physical alert coverage in high occupancy areas, Clark State planned deployment of Alert Beacon wall mounted units throughout select locations on campus, devices that produce attention grabbing bright flashes and loud sounds and display a custom message about the nature of the emergency and how to respond. Alert Beacon was positioned as the physical complement to desktop and telephony alerts, delivering visual and audible signaling for on site populations.
Rollout funding for the Alert Beacon additions was enabled by a grant from the Ohio Controlling Board, which supported expansion of alert coverage across campus sites. Operational scope covered network connected endpoints, campus telephony via Cisco integration planning, and selected mass gathering locations, and the program standardized emergency notification workflows under the Emergency Mass Notification category.
