Block | Professional Services | 12985 | $21.9B | United States | AppZen | AppZen AI Platform | Cognitive Computing | 2018 | n/a |
In 2018, Block implemented AppZen AI Platform as an AI Platform to automate and scale expense audit workflows across its T&E and Payments programs. The AppZen AI Platform was deployed to support Accounts Payable and corporate card audit processes used by AP, Procurement, Treasury and Cash teams across multiple Block entities in the United States and Canada.
The implementation centered on automated expense and policy auditing, anomaly detection for card and out of pocket expenses, and programmatic enforcement of coding to General Ledger accounts, consistent with standard AI Platform capabilities. AppZen AI Platform was used alongside Expensify for ingestion of expense reports and to surface audit exceptions for manual review, while Expensify templates were customized to improve downstream reporting and reimbursement automation.
Operational integrations executed as part of the rollout included expense data ingestion from Expensify, payment and disbursement coordination with an Oracle system and direct banking portals at Chase and Wells Fargo, and Host-to-Host or manual payment processes for checks, ACH and wires. The platform supported daily workflows such as review and approval of hundreds of corporate card and out of pocket transactions, monthly credit card reconciliations, research of unreconciled payments, and initiation of 500 to 1000 monthly payments across multiple currencies and entities.
Governance and process changes accompanied the deployment, with AP staff maintaining and documenting T&E procedures, administering corporate card lifecycles, resolving cardholder and vendor inquiries, and supporting external and internal audits through AppZen audit tooling and expense report retrieval. AppZen AI Platform was integrated into month-end close activities through AP subledger reconciliations, journal entry support and accrual workflows without presuming changes to named upstream systems beyond those explicitly stated.

Comcast | Communications | 182000 | $123.7B | United States | AppZen | AppZen AI Platform | Cognitive Computing | 2016 | n/a |
In 2016 Comcast implemented AppZen AI Platform to centralize automated expense auditing and reporting across finance, vendor operations, and payroll support functions. The AppZen AI Platform was applied to expense reporting workflows and paired with project-level support activities that included creation of self-service training videos, live WebEx trainings, and ongoing software support for end users and vendors.
Implementation work centered on the AppZen expense reporting module and complementary ticketing operations, with the project lead configuring expense audit workflows, repayment validation processes, and user-facing training artifacts. Parallel work on IssueTrak ticketing included building distribution tables and SLAs to route vendor and internal support requests into defined resolution workflows.
Integrations and operational coverage included ties to EDI flows and the VIP Gateway as part of workflow administration, and coordination with the online billing system for vendor troubleshooting. IssueTrak was used operationally to manage technical escalations, while payroll time entry assistance was provided during coverage gaps to maintain payroll continuity and T&E processing.
Governance and rollout emphasized formalizing SLAs in the ticketing system, documenting distribution logic, and producing PDF and training materials to support adoption and vendor enablement. The program also included auditing of expense reports to ensure accurate reporting and repayments, and ongoing operational support to troubleshoot vendor billing issues and to educate stakeholders on P-Card and T&E usage.
