The rollout was delivered as a Point Of Sale initiative and went live in 2016 according to the vendor press release, positioning the bank to expand contactless acceptance in retail channels. The implementation centered on contactless EMV acceptance capabilities, provisioning wearable payment credentials to water resistant PayBand wristbands, and configuring merchant terminals for tap to pay transactions. Mellon Point of Sale was configured to support standard POS acceptance workflows, merchant onboarding and terminal contactless configuration, and device credential provisioning consistent with typical Point Of Sale functional stacks. Operational delivery was provided end to end by Mellon Group with local execution by Mellon Cyprus, integrating the Gemalto Optelio wristband form factor into the bank’s payment acceptance footprint. The project covered retail merchant acceptance across Cyprus, aligning point of sale terminals, wearable credential issuance, and acquiring flows to enable consumer tap payments at physical checkout points. Governance and rollout emphasized a coordinated merchant rollout and consumer issuance program, with live launch activity in 2016. The stated objective was to boost convenience and accelerate contactless adoption in Cyprus, and the deployment impacted core payments and retail acceptance functions within the bank’s channel operations. |
