Contact Energy | Utilities | 1273 | $1.7B | New Zealand | Psoda | Psoda | Project Portfolio Management | 2022 | n/a |
In 2022, Contact Energy deployed Psoda as its Project Portfolio Management solution to centralise project information and support capital investment decision making. The implementation targeted company wide portfolio visibility, with contact transferring all projects into Psoda and enabling more than 200 users to access the platform at varying levels of interaction from monthly data input to daily project management use.
The deployment followed a phased approach, phase one focused on basic setup, configuration of fields and workflows and rapid onboarding to stop manual data collation, phase two introduced automation of financials and actuals uploading, business case templates, workflows for change requests and endorsement paths, programme reporting and benefits tracking. Psoda was configured to deliver dashboards, risk and issue registers, lessons learned capture, status updates and complex reporting for strategic alignment, with a test environment provided for user experimentation and confidence building prior to production use.
Integrations were implemented to automate financials and actuals uploads and to support reporting that links project approvals and expenditure to strategic goals, while information flows were designed to accept inputs from project managers and portfolio secretaries and present consolidated views to senior leadership. IT security and access control were requirements in the evaluation and were operationalized in the solution to protect commercially sensitive project and contract data.
Governance changes included establishing a pipeline view for large projects, different levels of governance and endorsement workflows, and a programme of continuous improvement driven by weekly user sessions and iterative configuration updates from the Psoda team. Training shifted to an online model during Covid with dedicated sessions and hands on use in the test environment, enabling project teams to refine processes so the tool followed Contact Energy processes rather than the reverse.
The outcome was a single source of truth for project and portfolio data through Psoda, enabling consolidated, real time dashboards and faster committee reporting. Contact Energy reported immediate time savings, noting that compiling a committee report which previously could take up to half a day now takes minutes, and leadership gained clearer pipeline visibility and alignment between approved expenditure and strategic goals.

Ministry of Education (New Zealand) | Government | 7300 | $12.4B | New Zealand | Psoda | Psoda | Project Portfolio Management | 2018 | n/a |
In 2018, the Ministry of Education (New Zealand) implemented Psoda, deploying the Psoda Project Portfolio Management tool across the Tertiary Education Commission for project management and tracking. The rollout positioned Psoda as the central Project Portfolio Management platform used for enterprise portfolio oversight and project tracking within TEC.
Configuration focused on portfolio management and project management capabilities, with explicit use of tracking and benefits analysis workflows. Next steps documented in the implementation plan included automating a number of processes and developing further benefit realisation reporting, while exploring agile models to enhance delivery approaches.
Operational coverage is described as enterprise portfolio management across TEC, with the Ministry noting that TEC is the most mature of the monitored entities in enterprise portfolio management and in benefits analysis. The Ministry recommended that New Zealand Qualifications Authority and Education New Zealand engage with TEC to share best practice on Psoda deployment and benefits analysis.
Governance activities tied to the Psoda deployment include planned development of strengthened governance and expanded benefit realisation reporting, alongside continued work to strengthen impact and benefit analysis. The implementation narrative emphasizes continued process automation and governance refinement as the primary pillars of the next phase rather than additional system integrations.

New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade | Government | 1249 | $335M | New Zealand | Psoda | Psoda | Project Portfolio Management | 2022 | n/a |
In 2022 New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade implemented Psoda as its Project Portfolio Management platform to support delivery oversight across two security programmes, Cyber Enablement and Identity & Access Management. Psoda was employed as the central project management application to capture project information, monitor controls and produce monthly status reporting for programme governance.
Implementation work centered on configuring Psoda to host project controls and progress updates, including the ongoing upload of project baseline data, monthly progress updates and monitoring of risks, issues, decisions, milestones and dependencies. Reporting capabilities in Psoda were used to generate Monthly Status Reporting and support month end financial activities, with project level processes for budget against actual analysis, forecasting, accruals and journals reflected in the workflow.
Operationally the deployment covered programme and security functions based in Wellington City, with the Cyber Security Team, Programme Manager, Senior Managers and Senior Project Managers using Psoda for status, controls management and reporting. The implementation supported governance routines such as attendance and minute taking for monthly Project Steering Committee meetings, and the circulation of actions derived from Psoda reports.
Configuration and process work extended beyond tooling to include the development of a Cyber CSOC SIEM Change Management Plan and Cyber Security Reporting Requirements, a review and finalisation of the IMD Operational Support Handover process following stakeholder interviews, and oversight of Security Certification and Accreditation tasks to ensure C&A deliverables were in place prior to Go Live. The documented outcome from the engagement was provision of project management expertise across both programmes, with Psoda operating as the primary Project Portfolio Management application used to coordinate controls, reporting and financial reconciliation.
