In 2020, Lemonade implemented Pulumi as its Infrastructure as Code (IaC) platform for a US-based infrastructure and platform initiative on AWS. Lemonade Pulumi Infrastructure as Code (IaC) was adopted to enable developers to self-provision infrastructure while aligning provisioning with organizational policy controls and operational guardrails.

The initiative improved provisioning speed, increased reuse of infrastructure code, and helped Lemonade better control costs and compliance.

In 2022, Modal implemented Pulumi for Infrastructure as Code (IaC). The Pulumi deployment supported Modal's serverless compute and container runtime work, and was executed by the engineering team at Modal Labs in New York, where infrastructure was provisioned and managed alongside application development efforts.
Pulumi was used to codify cluster topology, namespace and RBAC configuration, persistent storage provisioning, network routing, and automated rollout patterns for the serverless container runtime. The implementation captured reusable component constructs for the content addressed file server, tiered cache, and a custom FUSE file system to enable repeatable environment provisioning and configuration drift control.
Integrations expressly included Pulumi-driven provisioning into Kubernetes orchestration and provisioning of cloud storage and networking resources to support the Rust-based serverless container runtime and the tiered cache architecture. Operational coverage focused on Modal Labs engineering, spanning compute, storage, networking and observability for services handling peak 300 GB per minute network throughput, p99 latency under 200 microseconds, and 99.995 percent uptime over six months.
Governance was enforced through code review oriented Pulumi stacks, infrastructure unit testing, and pull request workflows to standardize deployments across environments. The Pulumi implementation underpinned monitoring and optimization activities that the engineering team used to tune the content addressed file server, and enabled container startup improvements reported as up to 15x faster and approximately 80 percent lower cloud bandwidth cost.
