Brakes UK | Distribution | 15260 | $6.9B | United Kingdom | SAP | SAP R/3 WM | Warehouse Management | 2023 | Bluestonex |
In 2023, Brakes UK engaged Bluestonex to conduct user experience workshops and prototyping for SAP R/3 WM, addressing Warehouse Management transaction screens across its UK distribution operations. The program targeted warehouse and logistics process improvements across Brakes UK distribution sites, focusing on operator workflows within order fulfillment and stock movement processes. Bluestonex served as the implementation partner for the engagement, running structured workshops, shop floor observation and iterative prototyping sessions.
The engagement concentrated on simplifying SAP WM transaction screens and reducing manual data entry complexity, using interactive SAP R/3 WM prototypes to validate redesigned screens and operator sequences. Functional emphasis was placed on transaction UI, scan and capture workflows, input validation paths and streamlined data entry sequences consistent with Warehouse Management best practices. Deliverables included clickable UX prototypes and quantified value cases to prioritize specific UI and process changes for further SAP WM optimisation.
Governance and rollout planning relied on stakeholder validation workshops and prototype feedback to build business cases for phased configuration changes and user acceptance testing. The UX artifacts and quantified value cases were produced to inform prioritization, change control and operational rollout decisions for SAP R/3 WM, enabling Brakes UK to sequence screen-level improvements and remediation across warehouse and logistics functions.

Direct Wines | Consumer Packaged Goods | 700 | $326M | United Kingdom | SAP | SAP R/3 WM | Warehouse Management | 2018 | Rocket Consulting |
In 2018 Direct Wines implemented SAP R/3 WM to support Laithwaite's new automated distribution centre and to improve picking and packing efficiency within its UK retail and fulfilment operations. Rocket Consulting led the SAP ERP Warehouse Management implementation, deploying SAP R/3 WM as the core Warehouse Management solution to standardize warehouse and logistics process flows across the site.
The implementation concentrated on warehouse operational modules and workflows typical to the Warehouse Management category, with configuration focused on inbound goods receipt and putaway processes, inventory management, and outbound pick and pack orchestration. SAP R/3 WM was configured to support automated distribution centre workflows and to enforce structured picking strategies, quality controls, and packing sequences to increase throughput and picking accuracy.
Operational coverage targeted the UK fulfilment center serving Laithwaite's retail channels, with Rocket Consulting managing the rollout and site-level process changes. According to the project case study the deployment delivered approximately 50% higher throughput and improved picking accuracy, outcomes reported after the system and distribution centre processes were operational.

Hansol Logistics Co | Transportation | 385 | $77M | South Korea | SAP | SAP R/3 WM | Warehouse Management | 2002 | n/a |
In 2002, Hansol Logistics Co implemented SAP R/3 WM as part of an SAP R/3 deployment at the Hansol CSN site in July 2002. The implementation explicitly included the SAP R/3 Warehouse Management module together with the Sales and Distribution module, abbreviated SD, to align warehouse execution with order fulfillment processes.
The SAP R/3 WM configuration focused on standard Warehouse Management capabilities, including inventory control, bin management, goods receipt and putaway processes, picking and packing workflows, transfer postings and physical inventory support. The Sales and Distribution module integration provided outbound delivery orchestration and order to delivery linkage, enabling the SAP R/3 WM to receive delivery instructions and update stock movements in real time within the SAP application stack.
Deployment architecture was site centric, centered on the Hansol CSN warehouse operations and distribution functions, with master data alignment for material master, storage locations and handling units to support transactional integrity. System configuration workstreams covered process mapping, customizing WM storage types and strategies, and setting up SD to WM handoff points for delivery creation and shipment confirmation.
Governance and rollout were executed in a compressed July 2002 timeframe, with project activities scoped to configuration, testing, user training and cutover at the single site. Operational governance emphasized warehouse process standardization and cross functional coordination between logistics, warehouse operations and order management teams to operationalize the SAP R/3 WM and SD integration.
