Douglas Spain | Retail | 3000 | $350M | Spain | SAP | SAP R/3 - Controlling (CO) | ERP Financial | 2002 | n/a | In 2002 Douglas Spain implemented SAP R/3 - Controlling (CO) as part of its ERP Financial deployment. The SAP R/3 - Controlling (CO) installation concentrated on establishing a centralized managerial accounting layer for Douglas Spain, aligning cost accounting and managerial reporting across corporate finance and store operations in Spain. Configuration focused on core CO capabilities typical to SAP R/3, including cost center accounting, internal orders, product costing, and profitability analysis for management reporting and period end allocations. The implementation emphasized planning and budgeting workflows within the controlling module, transaction posting flow to cost objects, and standardized closing procedures to support retail financial control and price margin analysis. Operationally the controlling installation was structured to interoperate inside the SAP R/3 suite, linking controlling postings to financial accounting and general ledger data to enable consistent managerial and statutory reporting within the ERP Financial environment. The rollout targeted finance, accounting and cost controlling teams, providing the transactional and analytic foundation for management reporting across Douglas Spain retail units. Staffing and governance incorporated explicit role requirements drawn from recruiting criteria, requiring a university degree in Business Administration, Economics or Accounting and Finance, advanced accounting knowledge, and minimum three years of SAP FI CO experience, along with advanced written and spoken English at C1 level. These qualifications underpinned the creation of an internal CO support and configuration team responsible for control of month end processes, configuration governance, and escalation for analytic and process improvements. | |
