Sydney Water Utilities 3495 $2.1B Australia GE Digital GE Digital Smallworld GIS Geology and Seismic Data Processing,Geographic Information System 2019 n/a In 2019, Sydney Water implemented GE Digital Smallworld GIS as part of an enterprise GIS transformation. The deployment targeted Geology and Seismic Data Processing,Geographic Information System capabilities to centralize spatial asset information and support cross functional data workflows across the utility. The GE Digital Smallworld GIS rollout emphasized spatial data management and network asset modeling, including topology enforcement, versioned geodatabase management, cartographic output and editor workflows for field and office updates. Configuration work focused on asset classes, connectivity rules, spatial integrity checks, and publishing workflows to downstream reporting, reflecting standard Geographic Information System functional patterns. Integrations were explicit to the program, linking GE Digital Smallworld GIS with Maximo for asset and work management synchronization, Power BI for operational reporting, and Databricks as the enterprise data lake layer. The implementation also connected to SQL Server and Oracle databases, SAP master data stores, and used APIs, ETL processes and Python to orchestrate data pipelines, while JIRA, Visio and Excel were used for project coordination, documentation and transitional data exchanges. Governance and rollout were anchored by IT business analysis and business data analyst leadership, with named roles leading requirements, testing and staged adoption across asset management, operations and planning teams. The program ran in parallel with a greenfield enterprise data lake initiative to consolidate spatial and transactional sources, enabling integrated analytics and standardized workflows without presuming specific performance outcomes.
