In 2020, Air Liquide UK implemented PTV Route Optimiser to strengthen its Fleet Management capabilities within transport and distribution operations. The deployment was centered on the Coleshill transport function and extended to national in-house and agency driver resources, with explicit use cases including delivery of medical gases to hospitals and key points during the COVID-19 response.
PTV Route Optimiser was configured to provide route planning, optimized scheduling, vehicle utilization visibility, ADR compliance support and driver rostering workflows. The implementation emphasized operational planning and automated route sequencing, and the PTV Route Optimiser instance was used alongside existing transport management practices to generate monthly operational reports and standardised schedules.
Operational integrations were implemented with the transport technology ecosystem already in use, including SAP for order and business data, SMARTOUR for route and scheduling context, Microlise for vehicle telematics and Google tools for mapping and ad hoc location services. The Transport Manager in Coleshill directly managed a team of 12 drivers and a national pool of in-house and agency drivers, using the combined stack to monitor utilization and guide daily dispatch decisions.
Governance work focused on creating standard operating procedures and training materials for drivers, establishing the Transport Manager as the point of contact between production and distribution, and formalising monthly reporting to encourage consistent practices across depots. The implementation narrative positions Air Liquide UK PTV Route Optimiser Fleet Management as an operational control layer supporting compliance, driver standards and centralized route orchestration.
