In 2018 TELUS International deployed Workday Financial Management as its global ERP Financial platform, engaging Alight Solutions as the implementation partner to deliver a worldwide rollout. The project intent emphasized a single tenant configuration to enable standardized global processes while preserving local statutory compliance across regions.
TELUS International designed, tested and deployed a comprehensive set of financial modules within Workday Financial Management, including Core Financials, Procurement, Supplier Accounts, Expenses, Customer Accounts, Business Assets, Banking and Settlement, Project Work Management and Budgets. Alight guided tenant configuration decisions and workflow design to align day to day operations with Workday Financial Management best practices, focusing on efficient transaction flows and centralized financial master data.
The deployment included additional functionality beyond core finance, with Workday Adaptive Planning and Professional Services Automation implemented for the United States, Canada, Philippines, El Salvador, Guatemala, Bulgaria, Romania and the United Kingdom. TELUS International also leveraged the global design to onboard acquired organizations in Ireland and India into the same Workday tenant, and is extending the platform into an additional set of European countries as part of a subsequent integration effort.
Governance and rollout followed a two phase approach determined with Alight, with corporate and the largest regions United States and Canada going live first. Phase one executed a 39 week deployment timeline followed by a 32 week stabilization and support stage, while phase two covered the remaining regions with a 25 week deployment timeline followed by a six week stabilization and support stage, and later acquisitions were integrated via a 100 percent virtual implementation model.
TELUS International reported that consolidating HR, finance and planning on the same platform improved visibility to real time financial and transactional data and increased planning and analysis capabilities, enabling more granular review of financial drivers and faster decision making. Workday Financial Management serves as the central ERP Financial system for finance, planning and project accounting functions across TELUS International global operations.
