In 2015 City of Toronto implemented UKG Workforce Central ex Kronos Workforce Central as its enterprise time, attendance and scheduling application. The initiative was delivered under the Workforce Management category and targeted citywide workforce timekeeping and scheduling for a municipal workforce of 42,306 employees, consolidated under the TASS Project also referred to as City eTime Project.
The technical deployment used UKG Workforce Central v8.0 and Telestaff v5.0 to provide core time capture, attendance processing, employee scheduling, and eTime self-service capabilities. Implementation activities documented include installation and configuration, migration and database support, RDL reporting development, WIM and SDM interface configuration, system patching and version upgrades, and operational monitoring.
Architecturally the environment integrated Kronos business applications with SAP through explicit data integration interfaces between SAP and Kronos, enabling HR and payroll transaction interoperability. The stack and middleware used for the solution and ongoing sustainment included Java application components, JBoss, IIS, Apache, Tomcat, Microsoft SQL Server on Windows Server, XML data exchanges, and Workforce Interface Manager based interface programming.
Project governance and sustainment followed SDLC practices with Agile and Lean Kanban methods using Jira and Confluence for delivery and support workflows. Calian Group is recorded as the system integrator for the engagement, and City of Toronto staff continued system development and sustainment activities from Aug 2015 onward, covering customer support, troubleshooting, configuration management, and ongoing maintenance of UKG Workforce Central.
